The d-bag who joked and compared killing hogs to killing people is on his way out. It's not about Free Speech because elected officials laughing about slaughter isn't protected, it's not just a simple mistake . . . Remember that there's not other demographic group Peck could make this statement about without facing the same kind of backlash. The fight to force him from office is gaining steam and not even he can defend his stupid comment.

This has nothing to do with "free speech." Our right to free speech is only to have it unimpeded from the government. We have no right to say whatever we want and be free of criticism. Otherwise, my right to call him a d-bag is infringed. He has the right to say whatever he wants, but we have the right to demand accountability for his comments. The only free speech element is the government cannot restrain him from his speech.

The idea of shooting people, fleeing a country run by idiots with no rule of law, to help make a better place for their families, is, indeed, fucking horrible.
But, this IS ABSOLUTLEY about free speech, and the 1st ammendment.
Its America, and the reason people risk thier lives to come and partake of the freedoms and liberty, won at great cost and many lives, by mostly white people, is because of our constitutionl, amendments, and rule of law.
The law states unequivicably, that you can SAY anything you want.
Even if it is rude and stupid.
None in their right mind would but someone who isn't and heard the verbal recommendation of his representative just may. That's the point. What would happen to you if you said that at your work. He needs to go. In an era of increased nativism and hate crimes people must be held accountable for their comments.

I am saying, lets make sure, beyond a doubt, that free speech has NOTHING to do with his dismissal.
If his constituents wrath, or his lack of ability to perform, in the wake of his expressed sentiments, sends him from office, ok.
I would hope, that if he is removed, he has the courage of his convictions and screams from the rooftops his own truth, no matter how nasty it sounds.
That, that is American as hell.
BTW, no one, in their right mind is going to shoot immigrants becasue of a stupid remark, and equating "Fire in the theater" analogies in this circumstance is a hell of a stretch.

ReplyDeleteHe is free to make his comments, and everyone else is free to criticize, publicize and take the actions that create the removal/resignation/recall, not that that is likely.
He is right that is the way those dumbos from south east Kansas talk. and that is why I drive around the area.
