THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! KANSAS CITY STANDS IN LINE TO GET A PIECE OF MAYOR-ELECT SLY JAMES!!!

Here's the way Sly James fails, here's the way Sly James fails, here's the way Sly James Fails . . . He won't be taken down by his enemies but by his friends.
Forgive the akward T.S. Elliot reference but the downfall of Kansas City Mayor Sly James will be epic and its already starting to happen.
I'll make this quick and then we can go back and examine how I was completely correct, brilliant and prescient but I have just a few examples that prove my thesis:
KANSAS CITY MAYOR-ELECT SLY JAMES OWES TOO MANY PEOPLE FOR HIS VICTORY AND WILL INEVITABLY CRUMBLE UNDER THE WEIGHT OF OF SO MANY ALLEGIANCES!!!
Here's just a cursory overview of a few folks looking to take a piece of Mayor Sly James . . .
The Heavies stepped up in the last minutes and gave some cash to push Sly James over the top.
Freedom Inc. Didn't work for an impressive list of victories and devise their slate of candidates so they could go on vacation for the next four years.
Let's not forget that nearly every trial lawyer in town wrote Sly James a check for a few hundred bucks over the last year.
A mayor who has hundreds of thousands in campaign donations certainly has a lot of favors to repay . . . Or are Kansas City residents naive enough to believe that people just gave out of the goodness of their hearts?
All of the ruthless folks that supported Mayor-Elect Sly make the Kanders seem downright benign by comparison.
It doesn't matter. So many friends and supporters of Sly James are currently looking for their job, piece of the pie or just a little payback. The people who feel slighted aren't going to take it lightly and more than any other candidate Sly James has a vast network of political debts to repay.
We'll see how Sly James tries to keep so many people in Kansas City happy . . . But that's always a losing battle.
To wit, tonight's playlist is inspired by so many folks who supported Sly who now have their hand out.
As always, thank you for reading this week and have a safe and fun weekend.
Better title Tony: Sly Stays Winning.
ReplyDeleteBs. So many folks supported James to right the ship.KC is on the right path.
ReplyDeleteCan't we all just get along?
ReplyDeleteGive me a break! Any candidate who runs effectively for office (can't count your favorite squeeze Tracy, Tee) works to earn the support, financially or otherwise, of hundreds of people. What Sly DIDN'T do was to play the old game of paying for endorsements (Rowland), digging up old faces (Burke), playing to geography (Hermann), or hoping that voters would forget (Funkhouser).
ReplyDeleteMr. James doesn't even get sworn in until May. Give it, and us, a rest, Tee.
wow, tkc.. opportunist.. so shocking
ReplyDeleteThis blog will be history! Kc is tired of stirring the pot. There was plenty to stir with the last nit-wit but not this time.
ReplyDeleteSupporters outside of the Council are the least of Sly's problems.
ReplyDeleteThe BIG ? is how much can Sly do to shake it up. If he does enough (shaking) to make a difference watch for the several returning council to cause trouble. It wasn't all the weird Funk or his fucked up wife. Ford, Johnson. Marcuson and Circo are just plain brutal to deal with if they don't get their way.
It is ESSENTIAL for Sharp, Glover, Davis, Taylor, Wagner and the Minorities to off set that group in support of Sly's agenda. In fact this could be a career moment for Sharp. He needs to lead a Sly coalition against the trouble makers mentioned.
Without a concerted effort by these Council members look for more of the same bullshit down there.....just with a new Mayor.
Fuckin awesome Tony!!
ReplyDeleteAt first, when I saw the post, I thoght you were gonna go for the "Wasteland" superficial anaology.
Hollow Men.
Very fuckin nice!
That desrved complimentnotwithstanding, judgement in advance (Yeah, I saw that "preciance"word---and I am very drunk) is premature.
I am drunk - still--how fuckin cool is this---
TS ELLIOT!!
How fuckin cool is this!?!?
Jesus god in heaven---ther is hope!!
Tony, blogger that he is---SHOULD PAY HOMAGE T O THE ULTIMATE STREAM OF CONCIOUSNESS BLOGGER!!
ReplyDeleteT S ELLIOT!!
I am constantly drunk, but I gotta tel ya, if Tony is posting a ref from T S Elliot---seriously---there is hope!!
Yes!!
The wasteland is a mcuh better place with TKC!!
Honestly, think how cool this is.
TKC is open to suggestions and mmetophor!
Education, knowledge, conceptual ideas, based on positive outcomes.
Very Cool Tony IMO. :)
One more time---TS ELLIOT!!
Very cool Tony, imo, TS Elliot.
ReplyDeleteTee, the least you could do is offer Chuck a handful of aspirin and a breakfast burrito tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteHe's gonna need 'em.
You have nailed me!!
ReplyDeleteIt is what it is..
much love......
First Conan and now T.S.Eliot. I'm impressed, but stone cold sober. Time will tell on Sly, but I'm not expecting much.
ReplyDelete@7:14PM, Sharp will not lead a coalition for anything. He is 100 percent about getting more power for himself. If he does not get chairmanship of the finance committee, look for him to undermine whoever he blames for depriving him of what he feels he deserves.
ReplyDeleteSharp's career moment was mangling MAST into near bankruptcy.
ReplyDeleteSly James' wisdom will come into play with his decision-making. Wisdom is a trait that many folk don't have. Someone will be kicked by the curb.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if his staff is working in his administration? None of them are answering in the affirmative. I'm led to believe James isn't the usual over-promising politician. He's got class and balls the size of a Mack Truck to get this far.
ReplyDeletechuck cracks me up go chuck!
ReplyDeleteits Eliot...

ReplyDeleteIs there no room for free speech in the brave new world?
If we all have to be nice, you should know that the origins of the word nice are French & mean 'to ignore'.
Tony, you need to start with Politics 101. Any candidate has to have fairly broad-based support which means money. You can't run an effective campaign without it. Forget about the Beatles and "all you need is love", in politics you need $$. One of the differences between James and Burke on the campaign was that James was promising to work with people and listen to them and Burke was promising jobs. So give all of us a f*&king break on the James fail bs. The guy hasn't tripped up yet and has promise.
ReplyDeleteSharp was working behind the scenes for Burke, not exactly an ally for James. Chairmanship of a committee??? Looking dim.
ReplyDeleteT.S. Elliot may be an awkward yet fitting reference for Sly.
ReplyDeleteHowever, T. E. Lawrence best described the Funkhouser/Squitiro duo.
"All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. This I did."
Its difficult to imagine anyone failing after the Funky nightmare.
All the encumbant council was for Burke They really have the pulse of KC dont ya think. Good thing Mayor James isnt vindictive.
ReplyDeleteIt's true that the incumbents are very aggressive and will test Sly's leadership. They will fuck up this Council too if given the chance. All except for Melba (she's just lost) are devious as hell and will gang up into a block just as last time. Sly will need all of his negotiating skill and every spare moment dealing with these people.
ReplyDeletethe incumbents are very aggressive Based on their record, it's a shame any of those BOZOS were re-elected. And that goes double for ed ford!!
ReplyDeleteThe only really reliable law of history is the Law of Unintended Consequences.
ReplyDeletewhat did the hispanics vote cost him
ReplyDeleteIf he Hires that nut Grimaldi he will need double that next time. She was a menace on the County Ethics commission.Chasing ghosts all the time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 1:55 100%.
ReplyDeleteCarol Grimaldi is a bitch and will deliver nothing but trouble to Sly.
By the way, she is no relation to Gerald Grimaldi who is a super guy.
Also, the whole incumbent council was NOT for Burke.
In fact, Marcason and Circo were openly in favor of Sly while Ed Ford, an old friend of Burke, was quietly in favor of Sly because the Citizen's Association, an organization Burke had in his pocket, endorsed Dillingham.
There are a lot of odd people here who seem intent on settling old "scores". First and foremost seems to be the old issue of "ethics" and Jackson County.
ReplyDeleteCarol Grimaldi, and others who were part of a legitimate effort to move Jackson County into at least the 20th Century, is a straightforward civic-minded person. The snide comments about her are from those who didn't like the push toward reform. Sly James was one of the good-guys who worked in partnership with Carol.
Reform is inevitable. Get over it.
Very impressive Carol, that sounds like some of the same crap you used spout before you tried to burn Jackson County down with your twisted efforts.
ReplyDeleteCarol and Linda are two of the few who would be silly enought to put up with the corruption of Diana Kander. And I do mean you have to be silly to overlook Diana's corrupt attitude.
ReplyDeleteI'm a lawyer and i contributed to his campaign and he doesn't owe me anything. Many of us just because we believe in him and respect him. There is not some hidden agenda whenever someone does something for you Tony.
ReplyDeleteYou boys are only name dropping. It's Eliot, not Elliot.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a lit guy but I remember reading The Hollow Men junior year at Shawnee Mission--which was way better than reading Caesar's Gaullic wars in Latin class. I've met many since then. (oh sigh.)
Then there's Byron, senior partner at the lawfirm, Byron, Shelley and Keats. "The Blogger is Father of the Man." One of my favorites.
I don't have a problem with people pushing for reform.
ReplyDeleteIt's how they do it that is cause for concern.
And it's the very attitude expressed in 7:27's post, "those who are not for us are against us" that I have a problem with.
No one can solve the problem but you and the only solution is yours.
Get over yourself.
Radioman, I never cared for my namesake's poetry, though I thought HE was interesting. I can't, won't, absolutely refuse to swim.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that 11:14's suggestion is that reform efforts are futile or meaningless. Certainly his comment, "No one can solve the problem but you and the only solution is yours." makes that pretty plain.
ReplyDeleteIt is a cynical clarion-call to do nothing. Lame.
At least he can't sue the city now like he has done in the past for clients and made a ton of money for himself off settlements. Way I wanted to see my tax money spent.
