TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! REPUBLICAN CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE DURWIN RICE HASN'T EVEN LIVED IN KANSAS CITY'S 3RD DISTRICT FOR SIX MONTHS YET!!!

More than any other time in recent memory, the subject of residency during this primary election has been a source of constant Kansas City controversy.

However . . . Kansas City's mainstream media seems to be willfully neglecting a rather heinous bit of opportunism on the part of one City Council Candidate.

Let me explain a rather odious misdeed by 3rd District At-Large Candidate For City Council Durwin Rice.

Rather than get into legalese and stuff that's over my head, I'm just going to note the facts . . .

Durwin Rice is qualified to run for the 3rd District At-Large but that doesn't make his candidacy any less despicable.

Thanks to AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS I've discovered an EXCLUSIVE CITY HALL DOCUMENT which summarizes the various complaints and evidence made against Durwin in a bid to get him knocked out of the race.

Ultimately, (and I'm paraphrasing here) this attempt was unsuccessful because most election rules note that primaries are just a device to get candidates to the General election where the public makes the "real" decision. So check these documents and realize that I'm not saying that Durwin Rice isn't legally qualified to run.

However, here's what I will contend and it's backed up by the City Attorney in his opinion affirming the right of Durwin Rice to compete in the 3rd District At-Large Race . . .

CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE DURWIN RICE WILL NOT HAVE EVEN LIVED IN THE 3RD DISTRICT FOR SIX MONTHS WHEN THE PRIMARY ELECTION TAKES PLACE TOMORROW!!!

It gets worse . . .

In a non-partisan race and in the traditionally Democrat 3rd District, Durwin Rice has identified himself as a Republican.

Obviously, Durwin Rice is a white guy asking the rest of Kansas City to vote for him in his new dwelling.

Plain and simple . . .

DURWIN RICE IS ATTEMPTING TO REPRESENT A DISTRICT HE JUST MOVED IN AND HAS NOTHING IN COMMON WITH AS AN OPPORTUNISTIC PLOY TO FIND HIS WAY ON THE CITY COUNCIL!!!

So many people give Durwin the benefit of the doubt because Tulips on Troost was sweet . . . But stuff THIS in your pouch and smoke it:

Durwin Rice only wins if WHITE VOTERS from other parts of Kansas City decide that a Republican newbie to the 3rd District is more qualified than the other candidates who have lived their longer and have more in common with residents in that area.

LET'S MAKE IT PLAIN: DURWIN RICE WANTS OTHER KANSAS CITY WHITE PEOPLE TO HELP HIM DISENFRANCHISE THE PREDOMINANTLY BLACK AND DEMOCRAT PEOPLE OF THE 3RD DISTRICT!!!

Furthermore . . .

IT'S ONE OF THE MOST DISGUSTING MOVES THIS TOWN HAS EVER SEEN AND SO FAR NO LOCAL MEDIA OUTLET WILL TOUCH THE STORY OF PUBLIC OUTCRY IN THE 3RD DISTRICT OVER DURWIN'S DIRTY TRICK!!!

This is one of those rare instances where we'll get to see just how divided and racist Kansas City really is . . . With so many residency fights it's hard to keep track of them all but this cynical attempt to capitalize on racial divisions in Kansas City by a 3rd District interloper deserves to labeled as nothing less than what it is: Disenfranchisement.

  1. Not enough bold red letters.

  2. FACT: He shares the same campaign team as Deb Hermann.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I'm pretty sure he's Fletcher's roommate.

    ReplyDelete
  4. In California?

    ReplyDelete
  5. well, legally, he can run so it is democracy, not disenfranchisement. To disenfranchise I believe you take away some one's right to vote. That said, I wont vote for Rice, but still, you are being overly dramatic dude.

    ReplyDelete
  6. FACT: I wouldn't care if Rice and Hermann shared a campaign team, I don't know why anyone would, but they don't.

  7. Unfuckinbelievable---

Hey Tony, just Sat. you said you only voted for "People of color".

Racist identity politics promoted on this blog. But now, if a white boy wants white votes his effort is "Dispicable".

Help me out here, I am just looking for some clarity. Hold my hand, if you will through the nuance and guide me to the promised land.

    What exactly are the rules?

By the way, Tony's quote can be seen on "The Sat. Night Playlist in support of Sly James.

  8. Chuck, I like the cut of your jib. To answer a previous question of yours, I wouldn't mind at all if a white reporter said they would only vote for people of color.

I'm a student of history, just trying to even out the legacy of slavery, rape, genocide and Pat Boone.

    With booty photos.

And c'mon you've got to admit Durwin isn't doing the right thing.

  9. The rules changed for Rice. No one was impressed with him at any of the forums and the 3rd district will not vote for him cause they don't know him and several people have been to the house he fixing up (lol) he doesn't live there. The windows have been broken for years. Mrs.Lane, is his friend, and Durwin had her to lie, for him both should be jailed and fined for lying.

  10. So Reed is running as a front man for Al Brooks so Al can get city hall money for ad Hoc, and Rice is running to fund Tulips for Troost with public cash.
You'd hope there'd be something in this for the residents of the Third District, but of course, you'd be wrong.
Insider politics as usual in KCMO, and another long four years staring us in the face.

  11. Tony - this was news 5 months ago when Rice announced he was running. With black candidates in the 3rd district splitting their vote, I was certain Rice would be a shoe in to the general election.
You have been so busy trying to figure out how to get Tara to blow you that you completely overlooked this one.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Dude, he's lived on the border between the 4th and 3rd districts and has been an active volunteeer and leader on Troost Avenue for many years. He moved into the 3rd district because as much as he wanted to keep helping, he couldn't do it in the City Council unless he bought a house 3 streets away. What's your problem? Men move all the time in order to run for office. Usually it's a sign that they're more in tune in the long run- wiling to put their money where their mouth is. What about elected officials who have never lived in the district they run in?

I haven't decided how I'm voting on this one yet, as traditionally I don't vote Republican. But I've met this man, he's a part of the neighborhood and he really is passionate about seeing change in the 3rd district and finding answers to the issues there.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am "white"and Durwin will not get my vote, what he is doing is terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Durwin is a good guy but his residence in the 3rd isn't permanent.

He's renting a place so if he doesn't win he can move back to the 4th. That's opposite of the scenario you describe 11:10.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Durwin owns that house in the 3rd District and has done more for that district in a weekend than Brooks and Curls have done in 4 years. He lived on TROOST Ave - not in his mom's basement.

You're just an ass Tony. The media isn't reporting on the outcry because there isn't any. Apparently to you being non-white is the only qualifier that counts for the 3rd district - talk about disenfranchised.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @1011, he is his campaign staff!

    ReplyDelete
  17. carol coe. SSB. sandra mcfadden weaver. troy "zimmer" nash. yeah the 3rd need to keep electing folks picked in back rooms of freedom inc

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ok. As long as ya own it, ya own it.

We need more hot chicks with some color my brutha. heh heh...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh chuck. Are you my twin brother? I agree, more booty with color. Notice I didn't say BBW!

    I'm a bootie guy.

Now then, I didn't want to bother reading Tee's long and wordy, rambling post. I skipped it ALL and went straight to the comments til I saw that you CHUCK, posted.

So I went back to byte the bullet and endure the post. But I just couldn't. Something about racism, you said.

I have NO PATIENCE for Tony's smokescreens disguising his racism. Too intentionally convoluted.

he needs to to learn how to get to the point, given that he's the main blogger here.

The problem with GETTING TO THE POINT, is that ulterior motives (like RACISM and helping friends) will be more apparent.

Needs to put all the bullshit below the "READ MORE...." link for people who give a shit. And forget the "my awesome tipsters" shit.

They don't need to be stroked. Their motivation is NOT that you're stroking them, but trashing their enemies! They're not here for credit. They're here to make trouble!

  20. Durwin is a good guy, thoughtful, intelligent, caring, and color blind. None of those attributes apply to Melba Curls, or Sharon Sanders Brooks. Durwin's work on PIAC and his inner-city dedication are excellent reasons to support him. He's got my vote. If the people of KC want the third to come back from the nearly-dead, they'll vote for him, too.

Tony, you are way off base in this case. Fletcher's residency didn't seem to bother you and you supported him? But Durwin is Satan for wanting to help and for legally residing in his district? Who is playing the race card now, Tony?

    ReplyDelete
  21. What about Scott Wagner? Didn't he just move to the northland like 2 weeks ago?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I generally try and give TKC the benefit of the doubt but it's blog entries like this that make his racism and hypocrisy hard to ignore. I'll give him credit for admitting it but it still doesn't make it right. Voting by skin color only is not in the best interest of the minorities or majorities.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The politics of identity, at this point, supercede the public good, for time at the public trough.

Rman, you should start a "Wonder Bread White Man" blog to explain our collective so called crimes and portray for said Wonder Boys a more less revisionist history of the recent past.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am white and Durwin has all my family's votes. Cry on racist cry babies.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm more concerned about his being a Republican than I am his recent move....

    ReplyDelete
  26. To all you uneducated dipshits on here that are bitching about what district this guy lives in. He is running for 3rd District "AT LARGE", whichmeans he does not have to live in the actual district. He is only required to meet the Kansas City, MO residency requirement. He can live anywhere in the city limits he wants to.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 3:44 FOR THE WIN! But you, 3:44, are wasting your time with the common sense. This blog is riddled with clownery.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 3:44. You are wrong. He has to live in the district. At large means the entire city can vote for him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. No more egregious than trying to redraw the districts 6 mos before the election. Sometimes you just should stand up and be counted, this is one of those times.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 3:44 - That's not correct. You have to live in the district to run from there. That's why Durwin moved.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's not even close to "disenfranchisement"...speaking of which, what about all the people who disenfranchise themselves by not voting? Or by not even registering to vote?

    ReplyDelete
  32. 3:44-lol, come on-what a dumb statement probably why you are a Rice supporter!

    ReplyDelete
  33. 2/21/11 11:10 AM-lying piece of shit. Durwin doesn't own that house it belongs to Robert "Bob" Skaggs, he is helping Lewis remodel it. He was never close to the 3rd district, his shop was in the 4th district and he was on the west side of 55th Troost.
Durwin may have you guys fooled but I've known him for years, ask him about the paper he penned" Angry African Americans" he doesn't believe that black folks are equal to whites"! This is the wrong man at 56 years old he can not relate to the young black youth that need leadership.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 6:13, he's right for me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. His tulips will not stop crime or bring jobs to the third. He doesn't have a clue to the problems in our neighborhoods nor does he represent us. He just wants the seat downtown to help take more mortagae free houses and help developers get in easier. See even though he has a residency problem, downtown has no problem with him at all.

    ReplyDelete
  36. With people like DR there will soon be no minority voice on the City Council at all and that will be bad but maybe that is the plan afterall. The man is bad news and wrote a hateful paper which lets us know his heart is not for representing the residence of the third district. This is dangerous decietful political business.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Skaggs was the previous owner-so you don't know what you are talking about. I bet none of you even read the article -there was nothing wrong with the article -in it he defends the 3rd District against corruption and apathy. So sad, I truly feel sorry for you, because your negativity is blinding you.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The article was offensive period.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So he says he is a Republican? I bet there are more Republicans in the 4th District and North of the river. I wonder how there neighborhoods are? Democrats need to stop supressing the poor so they can keep their jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 6:13, thanks for the heads up. Reasons enough to vote FOR him. No joke on that either.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You know why Durwin Rice is still on the ballot? Because his opponents have lazy overpaid consultants running their races. Seriously, how is he still on the ballot? Note to opponents of Rice: Ya gottzzz done dirty!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Durwin is on the ballot because he met the requirements to do so.

He'll win if people have an effin clue about which candidate truly cares about the betterment of the city and the third district. It's not about color. Its about intelligence, hard work and caring. Durwin possesses those qualities. He's the best candidate to rebuild and regenerate the third district.

    ReplyDelete
  43. My ass he met requirements. He met requirements because nobody wenton record saying he didn't. He got lucky his opponents have lazy overpaid consultants that have no idea what they are doing.
