TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! MAYORAL CANDIDATE MIKE BURKE SOON TO OPEN 18TH AND VINE CAMPAIGN SPACE AS KANSAS CITY'S AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY BECOMES THE MOST PRIZED LOCAL VOTING BLOC!!!

The race for Kansas City Mayor can't be won without Kansas City's African-American vote. It's as simple as that . . .
To wit, the recent Freedom, Inc. win was a big deal for Jim Rowland.
Sly James still remains a viable and important candidate.
We're all waiting to see if Council Lady Deb Hermann can garner any significant support from Kansas City's predominately African-American Eastside.
And . . .
KANSAS CITY MAYORAL CANDIDATE MIKE BURKE IS CONTINUING HIS MAJOR PLAY FOR SUPPORT IN THIS TOWN'S AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY GIVEN HIS UPCOMING 18TH & VINE CAMPAIGN OFFICE!!!
It's also worth noting that Burke has the ONLY African-American campaign manager in the race for Mayor which might be a major selling point when it comes to showing leaders in that community that he's willing to let people of color take positions of leadership.
Expect a presser about the 18th & Vine office sometime next week but I thought this blog should break the news first since KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS told us about the meeting where the idea was first discussed not too long ago.
Still what's important about this fact people of color are the most pivotal part in this Kansas City race for Mayor despite the lack of a mere mention by mainstream media of minority voting strength.
How much for a vote KC?
ReplyDeleteHe'd better bring paper bags full of money. Of course, Rowland has already spent around $50K for "the vote", but that doesn't mean it can be sold AGAIN!
ReplyDeleteSame old system and same old result.
I see the racists are up early this morning. Hermann had to raise $25,000 for her tiny Forward KC ballot up north. Burke has to do the same for his Citizens Association endorsement. None of these groups have any money so they hit up their candidates. One thing about Freedom is that they can deliver some votes. All the other groups just print paper ballots and mailings and in the case of Hermann and Burke they can brag about how they have been part of the insiders who are ripping off the taxpayer with big legal fees for Burke and tax increases by Hermann.
ReplyDeletePoor bastard will get his car stolen in that neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteWhile I like it that a black organization is supporting a white guy (I voted for and love Prez Obama and think, considering the mess he inherited, he is doing a GREAT job, JMO.), I think it sucks that it is ALL about money.
ReplyDeleteFreedom Inc is selling out for money. I know every one needs money, but this just smacks of the same old shit, the classic smoke filled back rooms where decisions are made by guys who don't really give a fuck about the actual people living in the city.
I like the Sly James dude.
I also liked the new group of folks like Ward and Ellington et al.
Me personall, I would like to see some new folks take city hall by storm and work together.
RE READ THAT LAST SENTENCE.
I know your laughing at me, and I know its a stupid thing to hope for considering our city's freshly remembered past, but fuck it, I mean it, I rally hope some new folks take power and try to make things better.
I am gonna go watch "Mr. Chips Goes To Washington", and goddamnit I am gonna believe.
It's nice he is renting space there, but that doesn't make up for his being "unaware" of the illegal Port Authority contract with TWS. Does anyone actually believe him?
ReplyDeleteMike's the man! More to come from him. His public support has yet to reach its peak.
ReplyDeleteAmazing, Chuck, how much you and I agree on things. You nailed city hall and things in jaxco county so I'd agree with most all of your views.
ReplyDeleteExcept for endorsing a candidate, like liking Sly. I watch KCMO politix from the stands, cheering and booing and being entertained only if the acts don't run too long.
Nope, circus life isn't for me and they all look like crooks from up here.
Not sure why Tee's being nailed by some adolescent moron, but he does deserve it sometimes. Morover, spend too much time rolling around int he mud with the the pigs, you're gonna get a little muddy and need to be hosed down.
Speaking of that, I think that union fire department needs to go down to city hall and hose the place down, like you say... new people.
And then go across the street and do the same thing to the courthouse. I think they all secretly worship Pendergast for his long run as a circus headliner.
Mike's the man alright! The man in the middle of a big mess! The Port Authority thing is just the beginning.
ReplyDeleteWow! Burke has a real black american working for him? Which qualifies him for what?
ReplyDeleteRaidoman Please go away again. What will it take? Poor Chuck.
ReplyDeleteAll you gotta do is attend a prayer vigil, and the 52 black people in this city who vote, will actually vote 4 you.....easy as pie.
ReplyDelete9:58am Port Authority thing barely got off the ground because it happened over two years ago. Funk tried to make it a controversy after the investigation was already concluded. Plus he was not even involved in the decision to grant the contract in question.
ReplyDeleteIs there any part of 18th and Vine without a tax incentive?
ReplyDeleteHis midtown office is in the Uptown TIF, no surprise that his east side office will be as well.
10:07 are you that gullible to believe that the Port Authority's hiring of an outside attorney constitutes an "investigation"? It's gullible idiots like you, through your shallow apathy, that have contributed to the rampant corruption in this town. You need to closely read Sullivan's report to see that all he did was respond to the PA's request to whitewash the incident in their favor. This is the status quo for them. The only true investigation will be when the Feds step in.
ReplyDeleteGee, Tony, I guess your seven regular readers couldn't figure out how to use the SPAM guard, so you abandoned it - just like you abandoned your principles when you sold out to corrupt politicians.
ReplyDeleteGee, Tony, I guess your seven regular readers couldn't figure out how to use the SPAM guard, so you abandoned it - just like you abandoned your principles when you sold out to corrupt politicians.
ReplyDeleteIt's as much his fault that his client gave out that contract as it is a doctor's fault when their patients drink and smoke. Is it your lawyer's fault when you break parole? The whole blame everything on the lawyers thing gets old instead of blaming the people who actually make the decisions.
ReplyDeleteThe Feds won't step in because it's not an issue anymore, it's only being discussed because Burke is running for Mayor. It wasn't brought up when it was relevant and after the election no one will care. Why? Because it's all politics from Funk and Skaggs/Hermann.
About time someone paid attention to 18th and Vine. Seems like the Jazz district and Negro Leagues Museum have gotten lost in the shuffle. Important part of KC history.
ReplyDeleteSo, anon 10:49, you agree that giving a contract to Sessions was a bad decision? Funny, Burke doesn't. Just so you know, I'm not happy with any of the current Mayor candidates including Chastain, so I haven't picked a horse in this race like you obviously have.
ReplyDeletenegros always got dey hand out!
ReplyDeleteChuck:
ReplyDeleteLove you, man. You are right many times, but not always. It may be that SOME of these "alternate" candidates have something to offer, but a number of them would, in office, be even more dazed and confused than they seem now.
And by the way, it's "Mr. Chips" or it's "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington".
But you are not allowed to create a hybrid!!!
Oh yeah, sorry, Mr. Smith.
ReplyDeleteYa know 12:36, they probably would be dazed and confused, but rookies gotta learn someday.
I listened a little to Ellington the other day, and I like Tracy Ward too. They seem honest. Honesty is probably the first victim of public office, like innocence is the first victim of war, but...
Your makin great points and I think your right, but jeeze...
Just for example, the folks here in this section, are mentioning Burke and the 9 mill he was instrumental in passing to the Port Authority Lawyer, Sessions.
I have met hundreds and hundreds of lawyers in my life, a few had other interests, NONE JUST HAPPENED TO HAVE AN EXCAVATING COMPANY ON HAD TO PICK UP A 9MILLION DOLLAR NO BID CONTRACT at the spur of the moment (Funny thought, many of my lawyer friends and associates are Jewish, I wanna see some Jews workin some earth movers man, heh heh.).
I realize that it is probably not illegal, but I, and I think other citizens feel like that is professionally corrupt and wrong.
Those type of back room deals, they happen every day in this city and I think its time to open the windows and let in some fresh air.
Rman is lucky, watching this stuff from over in JoCo. I gotta live here.
12:36-one more time, your probably right, but I like goin for it on 4th down.
ps
ReplyDeleteIf that move by Burke and Sessions wasn't illegal, and I understand it is not, it SHOULD BE NOW.
Hey people, Burke and Session are competitors, not buddies like some would have you believe. Runnion and Session had no intention of releasing the no-bid information ahead of time to Burke, because they didn't want to risk their interests being questioned by him. They simply slid it under his nose and others inside the Port Authority. It certainly was politically opportunistic for Burke's opponents to add him into the equation years after he left as counsel, but I don't believe Burke knew about it, because I know for a FACT that Session and Burke absolutely hate each other, no way they would be back room buddies on this deal, especially during a time Burke was organizing for a mayoral run.
ReplyDeleteRunnion and Session are the wrong-doers here and two years later, the Funk campaign decides to use it as mud and fling it at Burke. Desperate and dirty politics. Sounds like Jeff Roe. And a number of other desperate politicians have used it to their advantage as well.
Well, if I was wrong, and I frequently am, I apologise.
ReplyDeleteEverything I read says Burke got the cash to Sessions.
Here's an old joke, 1:43. Why won't a snake bite a lawyer? Professional courtesy. That's why the dirty deal was successfully carried out under Burke's watch. If that's the kind of watchdog Burke is, do we really want him as Mayor. To say that Burke was unaware, after being entrenched so long in the Port Authority is a stretch of the imagination. It is insulting to the rest of us to be told he was not aware of the shady deal.
ReplyDeleteI feel pretty, oh so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI feel pretty, oh so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI think 25k for the Northland is a much better value than 50k for the African-Americans. Look at the numbers that turn out to vote in each of those communities. Of course, the Northland isn't going to just go with whatever Forward says, I don't know if Freedom has any more clout with their handful of voters. I doubt it. But if Burke can spend his whole career undermining this group and then get them to vote for him based on stuff like putting an office at 18th and Vine that's too bad. I don't know if any of the candidates have done an excellent job serving the African-American community, but I don't believe they have all screwed them as much as Burke has. I'm just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteChuck I don't think you instincts are wrong.
ReplyDeleteChuck,
ReplyDeleteActually, I think its "Good-bye, Mr. Chips".
The honesty of the young candidates should not be discounted.
I am in complete recapitulation. Thanks for the correction.
ReplyDeleteI am really confused on Mr. Burke now.
It's comical and really tiresome that when the very well-known system of political payoffs on the east side is accurately described that somehow that is "racist".
ReplyDeleteA little handful of self-appointed "leaders and spokesmen" have "represented" the east side for decades. And the old line from the 60s of victimization and entitlement has been accompanied by shakedowns, intimidation, extortion, and general grifting. None of that is racist and all of that is FACT.
Drive around the city east of Troost and tell me how successful these people's strategy has been for the community. And the school district, until recently, has been run the same way; nothing for the kids; lots of jobs for family and friends.
So get off the "racist" crap and just look at people's behavior and at the results of their decades of selfishness and neglect of their own community.
And let's find some new people with a whole different point of view.
