TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY MAYORAL CANDIDATE SLY JAMES CONFRONTS RACIST QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS WIFE!!!

There's so much about The Kansas City's Mayoral Race that occurs on background and isn't really part of polite discussion in this town's mainstream media.
The topic of race and interracial relationships is barely mentioned on local TV stations unless it's in the context of a sitcom.
Still, there's no doubt that this segregated and divisive cowtown still considers the topic of interracial relationships to be somewhat controversial or at least an issue.
To wit, the topic of Sly James and his wife (who happens to be white) has recently been discussed among Kansas City's black community. So far, only KC Call reporter Eric Wesson has been brave enough to put the topic on blast and bring light to so many silly questions that really just reflect not only ignorance but also fear among Kansas City's African-American elite.
What KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS have heard and what Wesson reported is that in several meetings of prominent African-American leaders the topic of Sly's marriage has been under discussion as both an accusatory question and a (somewhat) honest concern about the viability of his candidacy.
Given all this discussion that is NEVER gonna make the mainstream dead tree media but still could influence the Mayoral election on background . . . I took the time to get a direct quote from Sly James. Check it:
"I don't care what the topic is, my wife is off limits in this campaign. We need to stay focused on creating jobs, improving schools, and making neighborhoods safe. There's too much at stake in this election to allow ourselves to be distracted from getting things done for Kansas City."
This is the perfect response and, even better, a sign that Sly's wife isn't really going to play a factor in his administration.
So tonight, TKC is glad to remind readers that intolerance and fear can exist in every community despite color and as a legacy of the racism that this town has yet to surmount. Thankfully, some of the most promising leaders are able to move forward beyond this topic and maybe even help Kansas City do the same.
Good for Sly.
ReplyDeleteGood luck keeping anything "off limits" in a political campaign.
ReplyDeleteSomeone will make an issue of it (or anything else for that matter)...get prepared.
With all the problems facing Kansas City: crime, corruption, fraud, unemployment, etc. Mr. Jame's private life with his spouse is the least of my concerns.
ReplyDeleteShe is not in City Hall causing problems that is the only issue. Sly is looking pretty good. Looks like Burke has too much to overcome. Funky is out he is just to stupid to know it.
ReplyDeleteThe only question that really matters is - "Can his wife kick Gloria Squitiro's ass?"
ReplyDeleteWho cares. As long as Squitero is gone.
ReplyDeleteThis guy really has some charisma, I heard him on the radio. Sounds great.
I will say this. There are many African Americans in KC who have grown up on the east side and become successful in business, ministry, politics, and have moved away with prosperity. In the history of KC Sly James will be the Mayor that lives the closest to Troost Ave. in the Urban core. He dindnt move away. He understands adversity. He understand diversity. He hears the police helicopter several nites a week. He understands we need to reduce crime. Most importantly he understands we need to unite as a community regardles of color and overcome these hurdles and do better. I have met Mr. James twice and I appreciate his sincerity.
ReplyDeletedon't beat around the bush. there are black leaders in this community for whom sly james is not black enough.
ReplyDeleteyou are quick to call white people racist but you pull your punches with black people when they are racist. explain that.
I read the article too. I'm glad Wesson put Gwen Grant, Clinton Adams, Ken Baccas, Dr. Karen Curls Charles Hasley and Bishop Tindall on blastwithout saying their names. I knew immediately who he was talking about Gwen Grant is one of the biggest closet racists in Kansas City and i'm surprised that her board does not send her packing. I wonder how she stays on KCPT Ruccus with her dumb ass! You are right TKC the Star and black people would never report it because they are afraid of Adams.
ReplyDelete@7:41 those were the same nigs that helped get rid of Wayne Cauthen. Remember they had the secret meeting at Funk's house after they crossed Cauthen.
ReplyDeletewasn't wayne cauthen's wife white too?
ReplyDeleteAs an attorney, Sly hates to be black
ReplyDeletein a white attorney world.
Marrying a white woman is a good indicator to show people that he is white inside with a black face.
8:00 PM You are stuck in the 1960's with your BS. You sound like a damn FOOL.
ReplyDeleteSly had my vote before, now I'm telling my family how great of a candidate he is and that he will stand up to all of the racists in KC.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Tony.
I believe that Jeff Roe will launch a mailing to African-American women making a point of this fact if Funk ever faces James in the General.
ReplyDeleteThe Funk people did this against Big Al Reiderer in the primary four years ago, highlighting Alberts support from Gay activist.
Improving schools? Really? What does the Mayor or City Government have to do with the school districts?
ReplyDeleteInstead of making racist comments about individuals, who don't the "prominent leaders of the African-American community" get off their butts and demand some responsibility and reasonable behavior by the little minority of thugs that are terrorizing and destroying the black community?
ReplyDeleteThey've been "running" the east side for decades and look at the results!
Fortunately there are some serious and inspiring new voices on the east side and the upcoing election gives folks a way for a brand new start.
@8:00 Funny. I am cracking up. That was a good one. Seriously.
ReplyDelete@7:45 Those were the same folks that gathered to oust Wayne. They are the self proclaimed leaders of the Black community. They make the most noise and produce what? Can they point to success in creating jobs, improving education, eradicating violent crime in the Black community, or developing one economically viable neighborhood in the third district. The best thing Grant has done is release a disparity study. Didn't we already know those disparities existed? Go figure. Where are the solution studies?
As a member of the Black community we need to tell these stupid individuals to shut up and sit down. Stick with your stupid dinners giving out your stupid awards and worry about who's dumb enough to sleep with you. This recycled ineffective group is nothing more than tinkling cymbals that need to take their show to Forest Hill Cemetery for an audience that could appreciate their buffoonery.
It's time to take off the gloves with Adams, Grant, Curls, Bland, Freedom Inc. and a few more nepotistic egotistical self serving shake down artists. Enough is enough and I and other Black folks are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Let them continue to raise the issue about Sly's wife and I will raise some real issues about embezzlement, DUI, DWI, tax evasion, adultery, and much more. Being Black doesn't mean you have to be scandalous. If this is their definition of Sly not being Black enough then they are right. He isn't according to their standards. So have at it Grant, Adams, Curls, Bland, and Freedom. You can't afford to get it wrong this time. But then again I am counting on you to be that dumb. Am I Black enough for you? Do I sound Black to you?
Sly James is the next Mayor of Kansas City. Suck it up and get behind him. The next train is leaving with or without you. Your best bet is to get on board. All of you have proven you can't lead which means you can't follow, so just get out of the way.
For the record not only do you have my vote Sly, you also have my money and I'll personally guarantee you 50 more BLACK voters.
Good for him. Not sure who I am voting for yet but the last thing I care about is his wife's race, or his, for that matter.
ReplyDeleteWhy is there a picture of an African American girl over his shoulder in that picture, but no picture of his wife?
ReplyDeleteWhen you look ashamed of your wife Sly, you ask for trouble from bigots.
Leadership is hard to define. By what ever definition this city is lacking it starting on the 29th floor.
ReplyDeleteI think Mr. James has enough integrity and respect for his family to keep his private life private. Were electing the man, not his family.
ReplyDeleteI like white girls too...no blaming Sly for his choice.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Mr. James cross the line of "integrity and respect" for SOME members of his family but not others?
ReplyDeleteIn short, why does he display a picture of his pretty, Black daughter but not his pretty, White wife?
It seems like he is playing games.
I plan to vote for Sly but I want him to quit playing games NOW before his actions are used against him.
Those of you reading this know who I am, but I just want to say that Sly's refusal to play racial politics and sink to the lowest common denominator (like Tony often does) have caused me to give him a second look.
ReplyDeleteKudos to you Sly for not getting in the mud like all of the other politicians in KC.
Hi Diana
ReplyDeletelolzo
ReplyDeleteThe points go to Volker's Torment.
ReplyDeleteTo 8:56PM - The City has a lot to do with improving schools. The City through its TIF and tax abatement incentive programs is stealing over $50 million a year from the 13 districts in the metro. In essence, they are taking this money and using it to fund infrastructure and "capital improvements".
ReplyDeleteWe need to better understand what's really at stake here for schools in the long run.
Sly and Funkhouser both understand this issue.
Unless you are recently here from Somalia or Ethopia or something, you're not an "African American". You're black. Ok, can we quit with the hyphenated BS? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSo Sly;s wife is white how come nobodies mention Jonas Hughes is engaged to a white woman ", better yet not one peep about John Sharps live in black girlfriend ,no not one word! No we should focus on real issues and not who is sleeping with the race card!
ReplyDeleteIf Eric Wesson didn't call names all you have is wortless douche bag gossip. Real reporters call aout names.
ReplyDeleteThe fear should come if they allow the white boy to get the 3rd District At Large seat! Where are the preserve the 3rd districts big mouths now.Adams,Grant, coes,Hartsdields,Tindall they have been quite as a mouse! I small a rat,
ReplyDelete9:27 said it best. As long as the mayor's spouse stays out of city business, it's no one's business who'd married to whom.
ReplyDelete8:55 That was not Funk's people in 07. That was Al Brooks people that did negative postcards.
ReplyDeleteNot voting for you, Sly James, But I do like your action regarding your wife.
ReplyDeleteBlack elite is not the term I would use for the hateful Gwen Grant.
Good luck in your run, Mr. James.
I knew exactly who Eric Wesson was talking about. People that live in the Black community are well aware without saying name that Gwen Grant was the the asshole. No other "real reporter" ever touches Adams or Grant. Lynn Horsley, Dave Helling Steve Crackhead or Lewis Doo Good, Steve Penn none have ever mentioned any of the black Powers That Be.
ReplyDeleteand neither did Eric Wesson, so what's your point?
