TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT FAILS KANSAS CITY BIZ: PEACHTREE RESTAURANT PREPARES TO MOVE OUT OF THE P&L DISTRICT!!!

Big story this morning about the fate of Downtown Kansas City and a culmination to a lot of TKC EXCLUSIVE reporting . . .
THIS MORNING THE PEACHTREE RESTAURANT IS POISED TO MOVE OUT OF THE P&L DISTRICT!!!
Here's a glimpse at how this story has developed . . .

TKC first noted word of a controversial letter to City Hall regarding complaints about The P&L District from Peachtree Owner Vera Willis.
Subsequently, Ms. Willis noted her observations on the record regarding her P&L District concerns and cleared up some misconceptions about her place.
In the middle of this controversy, another nearby restaurant shut down and it was impossible not to notice the incredible shrinking P&L District.
And because some of this cutting edge reporting courtesy of some of the best sources in Kansas City, TKC was once again called in to meet with P&L District Executives EXCLUSIVELY to hear their side of the story.
The latest communique on this topic turned up in my e-mail last night and comes from one of the most well-informed, knowledgeable and KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS:
"The Peachtree Restaurant in the P&L District is closing for good tonight. They're going to walk in to Cordish this morning and throw them the keys."
Sadly, the fact that this iconic restaurant couldn't work in the P&L District despite so much alleged success touted by mainstream media speaks to the reality of a money losing situation that costs KC Taxpayers millions every year.
I can only hope Cordish finds a way to persuade Peachtree to say . . . If not, another local restaurant out of The District simply demonstrates the inability of the place to benefit Kansas City as so many had hoped.
Damn, I should have tried the meatloaf. I hear it was excellent.
ReplyDeleteAll the crime moving into the area is causing people not to go to P&L. Businesses are losing customers.
ReplyDeleteThere's other locations, what Power and Light really needs is a 24/7 White Castle....nobodys going to eat fancy, just get drunk
ReplyDeleteSuburban young people are the power behind the light down there and they're not in to soul food or racial symbolism.
ReplyDeleteThe service sucked at both locations. It is as if the ownership and management feel like they are owed something by society, and that feeling trickles down to the employees on the floor.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they put in a Pizza Hut, Church's, and some greasy hamburger joint. By the time you've had 2 drinks down there thats all you can afford anyway.
ReplyDelete8:31, maybe you need to stick to your couch and your box wine. Obviously P&L isn't for you.
ReplyDeleteEric Wesson will write a story on how bad they were done. They should have stayed where they were.
ReplyDeleteTo 8:30am the Peachtree restaurant has a star rating that doesn't dictate service that sucks. Check the rating of other restaurants in the Power and Light District, Makers Mark with a two Star rating. Oh, I forgot Makers Mark is owned by Cordish.
ReplyDelete8:51 The restaurant at 18th and Vine is still available for rent why don't you go and rent it since you feel it was such a great deal and they should have stayed.
ReplyDeleteMake no mistake the owners of the Peachtree are not saddened about leaving the P & L district with all the racial and parking problems they decided to keep it moving.
The Power and Light District and 18th and Vine are restaurant graveyards.
ReplyDeleteMs Willis wants her business tax free and if the public will wipe her ass she will appreciate that too.
ReplyDeleteThe P & L District are places to go and get drunk and that's the reality of the situation.
ReplyDeletedey niggas gonna take OVAH de P n L!!!! it comin.
ReplyDeleteThe Peachtree has been in business for 15 years I am sure they are paying taxes.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Willis, didn't set the dress code the ignorant City Council and Cordish established the stupid dress code alienating hispanics and african americans and some white.
I'm sure people dressed as wannabe gangsters are going to eat at Peachtree. GET REAL!! And the OG's don't give a damn about eating there either. Bad concept for an area dedicated to drinking.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is CORDISH IS A RACIST COMPANY AND THE PEACHTREE WAS THE ONLY BLACK ENTITY AT POWER AND LIGHT THAT CORDISH DIDN'T HAVE ITS STICKY FINGERS IN GETTING PAID.
ReplyDelete9:30 blacks are not classified as GANGSTER WANNBES OR OG'S YOU GET REAL!!! BLACK, WITH JOBS AND DISPOSABLE INCOME THAT DINE AT THE BUFFET DAILY WILL NOT VISIT P&L BECAUSE OF RACISM AND THEY DON'T FEEL WELCOME.
ReplyDeleteObviously, 9:00 am doesn't really know the Willises. The Willises are survivors and not victims after partnering with losers like Power and Light and 18th and Vine. I place my bet on them that Peachtree will survive and come out of this 10
ReplyDeleteyear crap smelling like a rose.
Please take my advice and stay away from defunct entertainment districts
that offer nothing in the via of realistic foot traffic.
Amen!
ReplyDeleteMan I thought white people were smart it appears jewish people are smater. That's right Cordish git your money.
ReplyDeleteDefunct entertainment district is all the power and light is. Best get out now so you don't have to turn out the lights.
ReplyDelete8:51-8:52-you tell them Eric Wesson.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I am not Eric.
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer a Jack-in-Box downtown. Beer and burgers is much better than beer and sushi.
ReplyDeleteVote no for the ETAX, stop giving your tax dollars to wealthy developers like Cordish. Vote for
ReplyDeleteCity Council that will fight for your rights not council members that are in Cordishes pockets.
The dress code and crime may have deterred blacks but it deterred white patrons and $20 parking what a joke.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to pay to dine where they charge for parking.
I hope the Peachtree sues KCP&L, Cordish and the City for the demise of their business. Hire a Johnny Cochran, type kick ass attorney from out of town that's not afraid of Cordish.
ReplyDeleteEric so you say. To bad your undercover was blown. Anyway just call Michael Fletcher he should be able to work out some kind of deal to sue Cordish. Eric Wesson enjoy your secret id
ReplyDeleteHigh priced restaurants come and go.
ReplyDeleteI told you once Cordish, I am not Eric Wesson. when was $7.99 classified as high priced.
ReplyDeleteThe reason the Power and Light District has not failed is because of your tax dollars taking care of the restaurants and businesses owned by Cordish.
ReplyDeletePlease Black Folks stop frequenting the establishments in the Power and Light District. Allow Cordish to use white folks and not blacks.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is all the businesses in the Power and Light District are suffuring they are either suing Cordish or Cordish is suing them. I was told by upper level City employee that very few of the businesses are breaking even and earning a profit is out of the question.
ReplyDeleteI agree Cordish, is a "Public Relations" nightmare. Always, in the news for not paying a local business or suing a local business.
ReplyDeleteIn KC, home of JOCO and people who go to the boats, we don't pay no stinkin parking.
ReplyDeleteGuess what? I've NEVER been to P&L. Haven't found any reason to go down there. And we spend a LOT of money each week on food!
You're problem is that you don't want to make it in the kitchen. You want to make it in the bar.
And you plan this in the Bible belt... where wealthy Kansans just don't need to drive to pay for parking after driving fifteen miles from a great dinner and lots of drinks on 87th? And then risk all the cops all the way home to GET HOME?
Fuckin morons! Government cops just don't know when they need to STFU and go eat donuts and not piss off both the businesses and their customers too who pay taxes and their salaries!
What fool will risk today's DUI punishments for a fun night on the KC town? Surely not me! Let em DIE. I won't drive miles for a drink. I'll meet my friends down the street, where the risks are sooooo much reduced! Why drive home trying to dodge cops looking to fill their jails with people like us? Screw them and the city they work for! I'll stay the hell out of KC!
What a shitty business plan!
Cordish freaking sucks!!! Its amazing people would want to party in a place where they have to pay to park. Hell I'll just drink at westport....or zone rosa...or the legends..or the plaza...or summit woods. Etc etc etc. FOR FREE!!
ReplyDeleteNOTE TO POWER AND LIGHT---
KC is not new york or Chicago.
Do your research, look at all the other cities where Cordish has built an entertainment district... they're quickly becoming or already are deserted wasteland. Just wait, downtown will look like it did a decade ago very VERY soon.
ReplyDeletePS... Tell the cops to back off if they want KC night life to succeed.
ReplyDeleteDon't...and then no one will come to your area. Too much risk. The more cops bust people, the better it is for local restaurants near where we live.
Not so bad, actually. Screw restaurant and bar districts in other cities, like KC.
Ya know how cops are. They want peaceful nights til they get bored. THEN they want an adrenalin fix!
And lots of arrests, pressing middle class guys to the ground cuz CONTROL feels SOOOOOO good.
This is why cops risk getting hurt. Cux the adrenalin feels sooooo damned good! Don't feel sorry for them for their sacrifices. They do it for the RUSH!!!! Most of them soooo miss Iraq!
Wow... I thought it was just me and my wife but the parking is a serious problem. Almost corrupt. The last time I went to the power and light district the parking was as follows..
ReplyDelete--$10 for a regular night
--$20 for a concert night
--$15 for a game night.
I just wanted a movie, and dinner 3 times. but these were my options. It pissed me off but I said what can you do. I think I am gonna do something. Just not go!!!
Spend your money at the Plaza, Westport, Zona Rosa forget the Cordish Company you don't see the restaurants they own closing. Despite their high prices and lousy service.
ReplyDeletePlease vote for new elected officials and vote no for the ETAX.
I quit going to the P and L about a year and half ago; too expensive, no parking or expensive parking, and bad service. Not to mention the increasing crime in the area.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Eric Wesson have to hide behind an anonymous posting on a blog when he has two radio shows and a newspaper to say whatever he wants to say? That seems kinda dumb to say that he was making anonymous posts on here. CORDISH. Then to bring Michael Fletcher into the conversation.
ReplyDeleteEveryone says Cordish is horrible to work for or with. Why doesn't anyone call them on that? I guess its okay to be horrible in today's business culture.
ReplyDeleteCordish can't keep local tenants. It's as simple as that Chefburger is gone too.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Chefburger fail twice with local tenants.
ReplyDeleteeven during event nights parking in the P&L is only $2 if you are going to one of their tenants. You just need to tell the parking attendant.
ReplyDeletecordish gonna be nigga bitches fo dis all ovah...watch n see
ReplyDeleteThe truth Cordish and the City Council forced the Peachtree to move by not affording them and other locals the same opportunities afforded the businesses they own and are partnered with. That's the real deal.
ReplyDeleteEvery time im at the P&L there are blacks there, maybe they dont want to sit down to a fancy meal when their drunk.
ReplyDelete1:57 Who said Peachtree didn't have black customers, blacks dined at Peachtree daily despite Cordish harassment of the Peachtree.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is Cordish only wants blacks in the Power and Light District ONLY if they are spending money in the Kansas City Live Block. Hello Makers Mark
Kansas City Power and Light Company and the City of Kansas City should be ashamed!!!!
ReplyDeleteTruthfully, they should have been paying the local to stay in that desolate hell hole. Spend your money elsewhere.
Maybe now the Willises will tell whats really going on in the past they were quiet in regards to Power and Light and 18th and Vine.
Same old tired powers that be thinking they speak for all blacks.
I bet Mrs. Willis, will host a party now for aspiring new City Council candidates.
I am no Cordish apologist, and they may very well be racist. However, they are about getting paid first. If Peachtree was in fact paying their rent and handling their business I am sure Cordish would have loved if they stayed. Simple fact is, they walked out at 18th and Vine, are walking out at P&L, and will walkout on the next landlord.
ReplyDeleteAs for Cordish. They are some of the worst restaurant operators in the country and will see their places die in the years to come. Let's hope for the sake of our city that the other places in the P&L are successful or we will be left to pay even more.
P&L will soon be a part of the failed revitalization of downtown KC. It was poorly planned effort and too expensive.
ReplyDeleteWhen Peachtree left 18th and Vine they didn't owe rent 2:22 needs to get the facts straight. Cordish, didn't evict the Peachtree Restaurant in fact anytime you want to stop your anonymous title I am sure Mrs. Willis, will allow you to view the documents Cordish wanted them to sign in lieu of signing the document the Peachtree decided to cut thru the chase and leave the Power and Light hasn't been the pie in the sky. They wanted to server ties with the Cordish am oppressive Company. I reinterate the owners of Peachtree are happy to leave Power and Light.
ReplyDeleteThe owners are grown ass people and can move or relocate whenever desire the don't need your permission, 18th and Vine or the Cordishes. The truth is the only crime the Peachtree committed they didn't ask the Powers that be at 18th and Vine could they move. The same powers of be at 18th and Vine are the on the downtown development board.
I said it once I'll say it again 18th and Vine is still available if yoiu think 18th & Vine is such a great place to be its still available for rent. I don't see you taking your ass too 18th and Vine why should Peachtree continue to stay in a hell hole they stayed six years one year without a lease. The Peachtree is not responsible for the dimise of 18th and Vine they payed their dues. Take your happy ass to 18th and Vine and talk to us a year from now.
Terms of rent in the Power and Light District Peachtree was one of the few tenants paying anything Power and Light has tenants with special deals or haven't paid in years. Before you open your mouth get the facts such as BRISTOLS, MAKERS MARK, etc..... Before you open your mouth get your facts straight.
Lets em face it, Cordish has a very serious PR problem and it's going to cost them. Or is it only gong to cost Taxpayers?
ReplyDeleteGuess if they want to know how to run a place, they should drive way South!!!
The Mayor, Council and Cordish are aware of the deals afforded other tenants to keep them in the P & L.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly aren't earning revenue to pay the rent.
I guess a small local favorite among blacks and Whites wasn't worthy.
2:22 Another dumb city Council person what you mean handling their business you dumb asses ran their customers away.
ReplyDeleteAs a fan of the Peachtree, I wish them the best.
3:32pm now that you have some extra time take some basic English Classes. You need them.
ReplyDeleteI own enough degrees to wrap your dumb ass and tie a bow. Sounds like someone is getting angry. CORDISH
ReplyDelete4:38 pm Angry and ignorant, Interesting.
ReplyDeleteSorry, if you go to power and light on a concert night YOU WILL PAY MORE THAN $2 TO PARK!!! trust me I've tried and the attendant said it didnt matter if I was going to eat, I have to pay the ten bucks. This area is doomed for failure cause Cordish, and the district are just so arrogant and they don't respect out people or locals businesses.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I hate to say it but I dont think the power and white district wants any black people down there in any capacity. Well....maybe to clean the light poles.
ReplyDeleteEric L. Wesson says:Why would Eric Wesson have to hide behind an anonymous posting on a blog when he has two radio shows and a newspaper to say whatever he wants to say? Okay Eric we get it so why are you hiding. Good luck on your local status.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you harassing Eric?
ReplyDeleteWhy are you harassing Eric?
ReplyDeleteSure the restaurants at Power and Light are earning money?
ReplyDeleteIf thats true why are taxpayers footing the bill?
Wow, took me 1/2 hour just to read all these comments. So why do you all think the district is failing when the Sprint Center is doing so well?
ReplyDeleteTo 6:24-----
ReplyDeleteThe district is failing cause the SPRINT center is just one piece. If you look closely they are only 60% occupied. They've had several businesses say GOOD BYE, they have had numerous racial issues, and the parking sucks. When you have proven KC traditional venues like the plaza and westport, upcoming places like zone rosa and the legends, you have no choice but to say downtown still sucks!!! It's just dressed up a bit.
LOL!!! just saw a doophus named Nick Ben on tv saying they will have all vacant spots filled in the district in a year. Dude If he's their representative then the power and light district is going under. His forehead is the size of my aunts ass!!! Lol. No disrespect but I think he has downs syndrome!!!
ReplyDelete6:39---I agree with everything you said. But you know, it was a total slum before this.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how to fix it now that it's there.
To 7:03--
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it was a total slum. But the way they are running the district and the issues they continue to have should concern all Kansas citians. Primarily since we all subsidize the area millions of dollars each year. We all should demand better. It's our city and they're not from here. They seem and prove by their actions they don't give a dam about Kansas city. And our city should show them that's not acceptable.
You should run for Council. These guys, I know for a fact, have a terrible rep everywhere else they develop as well. Chum up with the locals, then bleed them.
ReplyDeleteHa Ha lol Benjamin was on tv saying the restaurants are sound in the district and the streets resembled a ghost town.
ReplyDeletelmao
I heard the Power and Light District forced them out through excessive rental increases. Cordish, was furious about the black customers frequenting the Peachtree.
Neck bones were some of the best food I've ever had
ReplyDeleteCordish, is a gangster company the willis should be glad they got out with their life. lol
ReplyDeleteTKC, I felt sorry for the director of the Power and Light District the streets were empty and he was assuring the public the district is in great shape.
ReplyDeletedoes anybody here know how many empty spaces there are on the plaza? power & light district has two restaurants close after opening 50 in the last 2.5 years and its the end of the world?
ReplyDeleteLet me refresh your memory Famous Dave closed first, Savvy Closed, Bice Bistro Closed, Chef Burger closed twice, Ted Montana closed,
ReplyDeletePeachtree closed all within two years.
Restaurants are closing as fast as they are opening in the Power and Light District.
Stop comparing Power and Light to the Plaza the Plaza has foot traffic Power and Light doesn't.
Wow that's six closings in two years,
ReplyDeletewhat a waste of tax payer dollars.
Sweet cornbread and over priced chicken. They need to close. You could never tell how long that tough chicken had been setting. Never fresh.
ReplyDeleteSo let me get this straight, 7:23, downtown was a total slum, was for many years before the P&L and NOBODY in Kansas City did anything about it, as a matter of fact they (Kansas City Powers That Be) let it deteriorate into health hazards, fire traps and crime areas but we're supposed to be angry at an out of town company? Who exactly again didn't give a damn about Kansas City?
ReplyDeleteCordish, dont pretend to have emotional ties to Kansas City. Major Barnes, sold the city and the taxpayers out to cordish.
ReplyDeleteThe food was delicious and the best fried chicken and catfish in Kansas City. I will miss this restaurant last week I purchased lunch for $7.99 what's over priced about $7.99.
ReplyDeleteI know the owners of the Peachtree are happy to get that monkey off their backs. Oppressors!!!
I worked below the Peachtree at Frans Restaurant when the Peachtree hosted peaceful special events trying to earn capital to support the restaurant. The manager Candice would contact Cordish and complain she was extremely nervous when blacks were in the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteThe events were always peaceful Candice complained often and Cordish would respond. In fact Peachtree was the most peaceful restaurants in the district.
Lets face it Cordish is a racist company and the Peachtree attracted too many blacks to the district.
ReplyDeleteTKC mentioned the city council recieved a letter last month discussing the situation in the P&L district. I want to know if they assisted at all or if they just tucked their tails and ran.
Sharon Sanders Brooks, Melba Curls, Terry Riley (DOA), John Sharp, Cindy Circo, Beth Gothstein
etc... the black community deserves better and anyone but you.
Save your campaign speeches this time around.I will not forget you served this restaurant up on a silver platter to Cordish.
Funkhouser, you are going down with them the african american community deserves better. Please someone tell me what mayoral candidate is not in bed with Cordish.
I give P&L 2 years before it finally goes bust.
ReplyDeleteNice try TONY.. You wish you can suck your own cock. Good One.
ReplyDeleteI recently viewed the letter written by Peachtree owners to the Mayor and the City Council its amazing how the council allowed Cordish to abuse this small business.
ReplyDeleteNick Benjamin is gay!!!!
ReplyDeletejust left driving through the empty ass streets in the Power and Light District.
ReplyDeleteLike I said two Max
ReplyDelete
