TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY P&L DISTRICT DISPUTE: THE PEACHTREE RESTAURANT CLASHES WITH CORDISH IN A CITY HALL MEMO!!!

Wait for this one and then remember that TKC told you first. Natch.

AN EXTREMELY LONG MEMO FROM THE WILLIS FAMILY WAS FLOATING THROUGH CITY HALL RECENTLY COMPLAINING ABOUT CORDISH!!!

Multiple pages meandered and never really got to the point . . . However, there was an expectation for The Mayor and The City Council to "do the right thing." And several references to the racially charged dress code situation came up.

It's not hard to figure out that some dispute about Cordish management from another tenant is at the heart of the matter.

Back in the 18th and Vine Jazz District The Peachtree was the premiere destination but their fortunes haven't fared as well in the Downtown party district. Complaints abound during most Peachtree functions and, like it or not, the restaurant just seems out of place.

The fact that complaints are being addressed to City Hall should offer a preview as to where this impending battle is headed . . . Still, the restaurant was recruited to the P&L District back when diversity problems were at the forefront of their agenda. Now that the primary struggle seems to be simply paying bills . . . It's doubtful that the Peachtree will get the same kind of consideration they had at their former location.

Developing . . .

  1. Try the meatloaf. Amazing.

  2. Have them call the White House.

  3. City hall has its hands in every business BUT actually providing services to the residents. If the council wants to run restaurants and trolley services, they should see if they Mos tof them wouldn't make the cut, which is why these city-run operations are fiascos and need tax-payer subsidies to even survive.
Fewer murders and better streets, please!

  4. Agree about the meatloaf. But Tony you should note that other restaurants in the P&L have closed over the same complaints. Bice had a notoriously difficult relationship with management and that's why they were one of the first to leave.

  5. Tony is editing posts again, and it was even relevant and included peaches. Like "adam schieber is so peachy keen!"

They closed their restaurant in Lee's Summit too. Ditto the meatloaf. Everything really.

I've been to P&L twice. Everything too bland, too pricey. Of course I have been around since dirt was new and the place wasn't intended for me.

I wonder how much their bankruptcy proceedings are impacting their relationship with Cordish?

  7. They were in such a hurry to leave 18th and Vine, where they were the big fish, to be guppies in the P&L. Oh well.

  8. As a downtown resident, I refuse to support businesses down here that are overpriced and overtaxed.

Although Peachtree was great at its orginal location, it should have never moved downtown or into the suburbs. That forced them to raise food prices and that was a nail in their coffin.

  9. I love the Peachtree buffets.

  10. agree on those buffets. The best. Hope they can stay.

  11. I tried 3 or 4 times to give the Peachtree a chance, but every time the restaurant was WAY understaffed and the service was thus slow and atrocious. I think they're failing because it's not very well run.

The service was excellent in Lee's Summit, business was too light. Bad location, but prices were more than competitive with the chains in the mall.

The buffet is great. Never went to the old location either.

  13. When they were in the Jazz District and now in P&L the one constant for the Peachtree is high price for food. The food is fine, don't get me wrong, but it they charge too much for it.

  14. The prices are over the top. Chicken is Chicken

  15. This restaurant has problems wherever they choose to do business. They are "the VICTIM" as usual. They just want some more hand outs to save their biz! Boo hoo!

  17. Tony,
What consideration did the developers of 18Th and Vine location offer the Peachtree, I am curious?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have information from a reliable source that says the board offered anything but consideration. I am a friend of the family and is privy to all hurt and mistreatment the family has endured in Kansas City the Lees Summit location was the victim of haterism and racism.
In fact the african american community boycotted the restaurant because of 18th and Vine. Without fully understanding why the owners left Personally I would have left long before they exited.

Kansas City, does not deserve this gem and I hope the family finally gets it and takes their show on the road.

  19. If I were the Willises I would close the buffet and secretly relocate to another city. Kansas City deserves soul food restaurants that change their names, and pay cash to employees to avoid paying taxes.

Maybe that's what the Peachtree should do to survive pay your employees cash like your competitors and avoid paying taxes.

  20. I believe the purpose of the letter to the Mayor and City Council was too put them on notice you created this problem by establishing a dress code alienating the african american community and you need to correct it?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sue, Sue, Sue slap a lawsuit on all involved. If four black guys can file a lawsuit due to the dress code. I am sure the Peachtree can sue on the basis of loss clientele.

Peachtree, your prices are competitive with other non minority businesses. Cheap scapes should stay away, and stop trying to soak up the ambiance without paying.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The reality is Gates, etc. is
expensive we pay it and never complain.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree why has Peachtree became the poster child of mistreatment by the african american community in KC but praised in other cities.

Cordish and the City Council put a nail in their coffin with the dress code.

  24. Tony,
You said it now I want to know what consideration Did the developers of ?ine Peachtree?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Five restaurants closed at 18th and Vine in four years. Tarieqs Deli,
Lous Kitchen, Red Vine, The Peachtree Restaurasnt and Harpers. Not one negative comment in regards to the other, not one comment isn't that strange not one negative comment.

Harpers and Red Vine were expensive and service was poor not one negative comment.
