Looks like everybody panicked over the Port Authority story this week . . . Turns out it wasn't really a big deal after all.
So many folks were outraged by alleged no-bid contracts for a minority-owned firm with obvious insider connections . . .
Sound familiar?
It's the H&R Block TIF Fiasco all over . . . Only this time it's during the silly election season and with even more cash.
A very smart TKC Tipsters recently told me, "It's the same thing as always, it's a the rich, white establishment using a minority to prop up their own corruption."
But let's talk about outcomes . . .
OTHER THAN CRUCIFYING THE ONLY BLACK GUY INVOLVED . . . THERE'S MOSTLY JUST HYPE COMING OUT OF THIS STORY!!!
Are The Feds going to swoop-in and take a bunch of upper class white lawyers doing complex biz deals to jail?
Doubt it. It's never happened before . . . This is the GOP era of tax cuts for the rich and bailouts for companies "too big to fail," we're beyond caring about any kind of moral hazard.
Other AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS tell us that acting Port Authority honcho Mark Bunnell makes something like $14k a month . . . So maybe he's worried about keeping his gig but certainly has some wiggle room. And certainly all of these Port Authority problems are nothing that a good paper shredder can't handle!!!
Remember last year, the Star, The Dems and The GOP drove themselves crazy talking about a Fed investigation that never came down . . . YET!!!
Turns out it was Rod Jetton's sexy Green Ballons charges were really the punctuation of that session and had far more lasting impact than politico rumors.
Reported first by TKC . . . The City Council moved to audit the Port Authority and that's a good thing.
More than anything else . . .
JUST ABOUT EVERYBODY CAN SEE THIS WAS A POLITICALLY MOTIVATED STORY PLAYED UP BY KANSAS CITY'S PAPER OF RECORD THAT RESULTED IN ABSOLUTELY NO REAL CHANGE SO FAR!!!
I'd actually like to applaud TV media for failing to pick up ANY of this nonsense because the public was more interested in the weather.
Mayor Funky failed to push through his agenda and pretty good Port Authority picks on this one . . . The Star is now recycling blog content . . .
And more than anything we see that maybe the dead tree media might still be able to cause a stir among the chattering classes but might not have the same impact over the public at large any longer.
Developing . . .
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Finally. Somebody who understands the depths Funk will go to in order to get re-election.
ReplyDeleteI've read the independent council documents. Session is clear but now we'll waste more money on the auditor's report.
Yes, a successful black man that never needed to use MBE city work to achieve success gets crucified the first time he plays in the game where he didn't make the rules.
And if Runnion or Session had supported Funk's reelection, this wouldn't even be a story.
Don't even try to wash it MoKan. A $9M contract to a newly set up DBE with the Agencies lawyer as its principal is WRONG. Very wrong.
ReplyDeleteAnon 8:40 is dead on the money.
ReplyDeleteTony flips flops more often then Jenna Jamison in a gang bang video.
This is malfeasance and corruption.
It may not be specifically illegal (We will have to wait and see if THAT isn't covered up too.), but it is categorically against the spirit of public service and ethically bankrupt.
More insider deals at City Hall that suck the cash out of our pockets for cronies of the powerful.
If nothing is wrong, why did Mike Burke rush to throw his buddy under the bus???? Mike Burke who took PA money himself admits malfeasance when he tells us how disappointed he is in his FRIEND whom he handed the lucrative job over to.
ReplyDeleteTony, Tony, Tony. When will you learn that if it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck and looks like a duck, it is a duck. There was and still is mischief at play with the Port Authority.
ReplyDeleteThere is absolutely corruption at the Port Authority and it starts with Runnion and Sessions. Don't dismiss this. There will be more to come.
ReplyDeletePolitical bullshit. They won't even cancel Jeopardy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Tony bought his investigator badge at Toys R Us's dollar table.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great photo of the massive amountof commercial activity that the Port Authority oversees! This is just another of the many quasi-public under-the-radar operations that the taxpayers pay for where deals can be done without any public scrutiny. The city council should dissolve all of them.
ReplyDeleteIf "developers" and "contractors" want to do business with the public, let them come to public meetings and make their cases. You'd quickly find that a lot of these folks don't have two dimes to rub together and couldn't pass the smell test for credibility.
