The power rankings for this week were put off by just a little bit because I wanted to think about who really made a difference in Kansas City during these past few days. Also, I was busy with Jordan Carver and so many photos of her big guns. Check the most accurate list of powerful people in Kansas City:
POLITICOS
1. Mike Sanders - More on The Jackson County Executive later, but for the moment his re-election campaign seems to be going swimmingly. And his "Proven Leadership" slogan speaks to the fact that
2. Deb Hermann - She managed to avoid MAST Pension Mess embarrassment this week and rumor has it Local 42 AND Mr. Peanut are flirting with her more and more. So far, she remains the Mayoral Candidate Front Runner.
3. Cathy Jolly - Out of the City Council race she's now free to play "King Maker" and has anointed Missouri State Rep. Jason Holsman as her successor.
4. Theresa Garza Ruiz - She brought home big money for the local pet lobby and proves that she's a political power player and NOT a lowly reformer.
5. Gov. Jay Nixon - Speaking out against E-Tax repeal earns him a great deal of respect in the two biggest cities in Missouri. In the long run, standing up to GOP financial bullying is always the strongest move for the Democrats.
NEWSIES
1. A.G. Sulzberger - His writing as the New York Times Kansas City bureau chief is mostly regarded as boring but his MEGA-RICH family and connections easily put him ahead of ALL competition. Sorry, that's just the way the world works.
2. Marcus Moore - All over town this week, Moore seemed like a newsie powerhouse with the ability to seem as if he's in two places at once.
3. Justin Kendall - I notice the Pitch is stepping up their Plog coverage but this local newsie has been their Internet workhorse for a very long time.
4. John Landsberg - He's still running Kansas City's most influential media site.
5. John Long - Camp KC continues to be Kansas City's LGBT news source of record. The owner and editor-in-chief is certainly a local power player.
CONSULTANTS
1. Will Gregory - Kansas City's Top PR Consultant. If it's a "hip" "posh" or cool local event in this Cowtown, then the odds are that he's probably involved.
2. Kim Carlos - She's still connected and looking rather hot as she continues to raise her profile behind the scenes.
3. Chris Moreno - TKC's favorite local consultant, he's known for strong relationships with his clients and strong support of their causes. More later, but there's no doubt he is a powerful advocate for those that he's working with in this town.
4. Pat O'Neill - Expect more news from this local mover and shaker soon. Still, he's got a powerhouse organization that is steadily becoming this town's gold standard.
5 Pat Gray - One more time, think of Gray as Kansas City's toll booth for Kansas City's top political players. Paying Pat Gray is more like giving tribute and that's one of the most powerful positions in Kansas City politics.

I was told from a very reliable source that a rep from Columbia threatened to leave the HDCC because of your unprofessionalism dealings. Why are you picking a fight you can't win? Talboy will be the minority leader and you will be an out of work consultant that has shown contempt for past bosses. I don't get what you gain by bad mouthing former employers? If your not doing it and these posts are from your friends I would consider getting some new ones.

Talboy showed his ignorance when he endorsed Fletchall in a primary against the advice of Chris Moreno. Then Talboy looked worse when he could not find anyone with experience to replace Chris. Kevin Stamps and Brian Snoozing-knack are C-team players that Chris put to shame.

ReplyDeleteI was with Moreno at two different events today with Democrats in the area. If Mike Talboy is dumb enough to read a comment section and think Moreno would waste his time with such posts, he doesn't deserve to win the House. Thankfully, he is not that dumb.

ReplyDeleteTalboy was stuck with Stamps and Brian Zuzenak -- they were not his picks. Both are Nixon droppings, and neither has winning campaign experience.
ReplyDeleteKevin Worked on the Nixon campaign, but that was a landslide year where Nixon went along for the ride against token opposition. Kevin was Chris Moreno's boy going back to the 06 state rep race that Moreno lost. He turned on Chris and did everything he could to undermine him in the eyes of Talboy, who took the bait. He beat Moreno, but as soon as Moreno left the House Democrat Campaign Committee went to Hell, in part because of Kevin's lack of work ethic. Stamps even has trouble keeping himself clean.
Zuzenak is another Nixon pick. He is another Democrat who spends most of his day trying to prove that he opposes Civil Right for anyone other than uneducated, white males. This powerful approach to electoral politics has helped Zuzenack build a record of spectacular loses when victory seemed assured -- like the Judy Baker campaign in 2008.

ReplyDeleteChris Moreno was actually fired because of the terrible things he did to undermine the campaign of Chyanne Lockhart Cardarella out here in Independence. He offered bribes to political clubs and threatened members of the Women's Political Caucus. Finally Democratic Women demanded that the Governor take action and Chris Moreno was fired. I will still vote Republican for the first time in my life this year rather than vote for that man that Moreno backed.

I don't care who the politico, these annonymous attacks really detract from what is otherwise top notch reporting. Step up the stakes with a little house cleaning. People will still be able to challenge authority, but perhaps not scorch earth with impunity.
