TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! POLITICAL CONSULTANT CHRIS MORENO DUMPED AFTER MISSOURI DISTRICT 40 DEFEAT!!!

In the "take no prisoners" world of Kansas City politics, obviously, casualties are inevitable.

To wit, it's my sad duty to (EXCLUSIVELY) report that Kansas City Political Consultant Chris Moreno and his firm have parted ways.

A brief presser came over e-mail last night:

"Kansas City Mo. Regional Growth Consultants (RGC) has announced that Chris Moreno is no longer affiliated with the consulting firm. By a majority vote of the ownership, RGC has voted to terminate any business relationship with Chris Moreno."

#############

There is a great deal of back story on this but insiders know that the main point of contention is beef with the local Union leadership over how the race was conducted.

Also, the Democrat-leaning firm undoubtedly took a great deal of heat due to a Republican mailer.

The bottom line here is that some of the most powerful people at the upper echelon of Kansas City's political leadership didn't like the way Moreno was doing things.

Heck, even this blog questioned whether or not the Royster campaign was out of control.

Unfortunately, I think that Moreno might have been "The Fall Guy" for the antics of his client. However, ultimately a defeat or a firing leaves only one person holding the bag. Nullus. While the recount is on after the Rizzo Victory, there really isn't much hope of the election getting overturned and Moreno's departure leaves it basically dead in the water.

Moreno notes that he will have a statement on the issue in the morning and it'll be interesting to hear his side of this story.

Developing . . .

  1. Maybe there's actually a chance that you aren't a "political consultant" just because you say you're one. Maybe now some of these candidates will try to run on ideas and proposals instead of the name-calling and sleaze of the recent mud fest.

    ReplyDelete
  2. THEY ALL SUCK!

Poor tony looses his best awesome political tipster!

But they ALL SUCK. 12 percent voter turnout? Why do ya suppose that is? RIZZO SCHMIZZO. ROYSTER DOYSTER!

The choices all sucked. People stayed home because all the candidates suck. And this room was a 4th of July Carnival act!

ALL THE HANDLERS SHOULD BE FIRED, not just the losing half! Why? Because if they can't gin up more than 12 percent (that'd be the true believers who vote anyway) then they're all incompetent.

No excitement. Nobody sold their candidates because THEY ALL SUCKED!!!!

  3. Chris Moreno once told several people that as a consultant he ends peoples careers. Well he should have prefaced that with his own, because that is the only one he has manged to end.

Good luck stocking shelves at Wal-Mart you anti-labor jerk.

  4. The nature of the race was incredibly negative, but frankly, I thought Moreno did a pretty good job running this campaign; Rizzo sent out a divisive mailer that made direct attacks on individual conservatives and Royster's "Republican" mailer was only controversial if you really feel like Republicans are your worst nightmare in a high crime, neighborhood with struggling schools.

Royster lost by less than a dozen votes and Rizzo had the name recognition. Politics is cut throat and Northeast is a weird place to run for office.

Also, Radioman is a complete fucktard.

Maybe he can play for the Royals.

    ReplyDelete
  10. A shame that they couldn't find Royster a job and then fire him.

    ReplyDelete
  11. It is a fucking shame that Chris is the one who has to pay for all of Will's mistakes. Don't forget to mention that Tony that Will's campaign decisions cost him the race and set back another person's career. This is all a game to some people but some of us earn our livelihood by helping candidates only to be stabbed in the back.

  12. Ahh look at Moreno throwing his candidate under the bus. Missed you on here Moreno. Welcome back.

  14. It's not about the candidate it's about doing the right thing by people. This is not Chris but I am a person who watched this race and watched everyone spin out of control just to win a silly little job in the minority party.

    ReplyDelete
  15. He ends careers alright. His candidates and his own.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think that Chris Moreno ran a great campaign and after a recount could actually win it. If memory serves me right JJ Rizzo chipped off a lot more than 6 votes from John Burnett in their recount correct?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Moreno and I don't agree on a few things but his intelligence and the way he ran that campaign aren't part of that list. I like his style.

    ReplyDelete
  18. toadstool_watcher8/5/10, 10:27 AM

"It's not about the candidate it's about doing the right thing by people."
No, a campaign consultant is hired by the candidate to help her win the race. A smart candidate looks at the past strategies employed by consulting firms, their political ideologies and an honest statement of fees for service.
Most fools that want to run for office try to hire the best known firm. If they can't afford their price they move on down the list until they end up at Moreno's door.
Any place they land, they are the boss. Just how savvy a politician they are is then flushed out in the actual election cycle. Losers like Royster went with a losing team. Not a smart move. We are saved from his ineptitude.

Yeah I can hear the pounding of the keyboards. Sure, a really stupid guy may make their only smart move in hiring a great consultant then keeping their damn mouth shut and doing as they are told. That is how we ended up with Beth Gottstein.

  19. Unlike your readers who don't leave midtown I actually attend labor meetings and events and can say that Chris Moreno is in good standing with labor.

Louie, Sherwood and Joe are hardly the definition of labor which is why they don't have jobs or they are on their way out the door.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Did this company have clients before Chris Moreno joined? Because I had never heard of it before.

Wow. Look at Mike Talboy move to defend Rizzo. He leaks info to Tony's Kansas City bashing Chris, he pressures Danny Powell to work against Will Royster by trying to stop mailers and now he pressures his partners to fold.

Why is Mike Talboy so interested in the JJ Rizzo race?

Moreno, if you read this blog, this is a good thing as talk is that two of your partners are already foreclosing on their homes.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's your sad duty to "Exclusively" report?

So I guess that makes Danny Powell, Chris Benjamin and Mike Talboy TKC contributors.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Everyone in Jackson county owes Moreno a fucking hug! Even if Royster doesn't come out on top in the recount (based on past recounts, he has at least a 50/50 shot fellas), Royster and Moreno single-handly (does that phrase turn you on Little Rizzo?) took on the Spaghetti Factory, aka Henry Rizzo and his bribe and bully network. Teresa Garza, Crystal Williams, all their supporters; they all had easier races because Henry was focused on attacking and defending attacks from Royster against JJ of TMJJ. Henry brushed aside everything else which is why he lost big time. Royster and Moreno actually have the courage to stand up to Macaroni Rizzo, Louie "The Drunk" Wright, Vickie Callahan, and Col. Sanders. They care about the democrat party actually serving the people instead of lining each other's pockets and blowing each other. They have real courage, and to fight this fight against the Losers they had to pull out all stops. If they don't pull ahead, it will be because they should have hit even harder.

    Great job guys! Keep fighting!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Agreed 10:52

    ReplyDelete
  25. with a name like Talboy, do you think he is compensating for something???

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'll compensate Talboy, all over him!

I don't like Sanders because he looks like a lesbian and i only like boys.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i sure hope the county and state democrats step up now and help Will! this is their chance to get rid of Rizzos once and for all. I understand they didn't step in earlier because Rizzo is such a bully everyone turned in fear away, but he is out of the picture. now step up and clean house! otherwise you deserve to be the laughing stock of the midwest democrat party.

    ReplyDelete
  28. TKC man - working it hard huh? lemme guess, Rizzo won't pay a dime like promised unless JJ wins out?

prolly threatening to repo car too, they are good at that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. As a candidate that RGC helped on the St. Louis side, I feel I need to sound off on the last few posts which sound like a disgruntled former employee. I used to live in KC for a time and know all the players in this story and have followed TKC even though I have moved out of the area.

To my knowledge RGC had a pretty good election night. The reason you don't hear much or hadn't heard much is because they don't make themselves the star of the race they are working on. This was likely part of the problem they had with Moreno. He made himself the story and not the candidate. The problem with Moreno is that he would say baseless things to people on all sides and spread rumors not knowing who his audience was. I have been witness to this personally and it does make you wonder what impact it has on those in the room when he does this.

His fights with unions were so passionate that I got questions on the eastern side of the state about my hiring RGC because Moreno was an employee of theirs and I found myslef having to clarify that he was not involved in this campaign and I was working with Kevin and others.

It is never fun to lose something you work hard at in any area of life but I am not sure going around bashing people you worked for, bad mouthing people who have stood up for you and blaming everyone else for your behavior is the right way to exit.

RGC still has the web site up and I don't believe Moreno was ever included on that site from the first time I saw it when they pitched their services to me or when Tony linked to it. They did not fold and are still alive and well. In fact I have a mail budget meeting with them at 2 today.

The fact of the matter is simply, if you have an employee in a democratic consulting firm who is at odds with the labor groups, has become toxic in several circles around the state and is a loose cannon, you have no choice but to remove that employee and move forward.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Will's mistakes? Whoever was in charge in the Royster camp made huge mistakes, and I personally think that falls on the consultants head. If you can't control your client, quit the campaign. Unless the candidate says something like a racial slur or even worse and can't recover, you have to control your client.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am also a client of RGC and I agree with 11:25.

    ReplyDelete
  32. one of the more promising state house candidates is working with RGC (winning unopposed Tuesday). So they've gotta look out for #1.

Although another client lost his primary by a pretty small vote in outstate.

point taken. I agree that Moreno took center stage to the determent of his client.(posted that early on) I am puzzled as to why his firm did not intercede on their client's behalf.
Anyway, Moreno is not a team player and the only move left was to remove him from their staff.

You sellout pussies. Labor unhinged is not a good thing. Democrats can be for the working man, not the man working to screw the working man. Union leaders in Jackson County are crooks! Stop bowing down like a bunch of french whores doing blowjobs.

  37. I bet Chris Moreno and Will Royster are really upset. Maybe they learned a lesson that many of us learned in 1st grade. If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.

I am sorry that they lost but they deserved it and they deserve all the remarks on here making fun of them. The things they said on here were racist, homophobic, and just plain cruel. John Rizzo should gloat all he wants, though I know that he won't because he has class. Unlike Will Royster and Chris Moreno. Maybe that is why HE will be going to Jefferson City and Will Royster will be going nowhere.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Going nowhere? Will Royster should forget about this stupid recount, just gonna be bad press and run for city council immediately, announce that he won't pursue a recount and use that press for his council announcement. He is a good candidate with a bad campaign manager.

But all bets are off if he takes the low road and loses again after the recount, which he will. Too much bad press to overcome. His name will be synonymous with recount and loser, instead of strong showing for first time candidate and classy move accepting the lose and moving on. The recount lose will be all he is known for.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Agreed, Royster should run for 1st dist. council seat.

    ReplyDelete
  40. that is scott wagner's job; unless the district moves and he moves with it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love that Royster would be seen as a loser for asking for a recount down 7 votes. And JJ Rizzo wasn't seen as a loser after he lost 3 straight times?

What's the harm to have a recount for a safe seat? Are you guys scared or something?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Royster has name ID now, Wagner still has to get it. Royster starts ahead of Wagner, how it finishes is up to the campaigns.

One thing is for sure he won't be hiring Chris Moreno.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Royster has now lost to Rizzo twice, committeeman in 2008, State Representative in 2010.

Rizzo also beat John Burnett for Committeeman.

It's a new day in Northeast.

    GO RIZZO!

    I remember now.

It's fun watching idiots trample each other in their quest for fame and fortune via low-paying positions in the arena of graft and soul-selling that have made this podunk town of a city that squats down on its citizens and takes a Guinness record-breaking shit on our heads.

  51. Do not seek the treasure8/5/10, 11:31 PM

Moreno's former-partner named Chris Benjamin did Crystal Williams's attack mailings on the QT. They also worked for Terry Riley though this same closeted relationship.

If Crystal does not disclose this relationship accurately on her campaign forms, she will face huge fines and possible imprisonment.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Where are these people attacking Chris Moreno from if their houses are being foreclosed?

  53. If you call Mike Talboy, Louie Wright and Sherwood Smith a great deal of heat you should probably spend more time educating yourself on labor.
