TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! CO-MAYOR FUNKY'S LATEST STUPID SCHEME: TURN TRUMAN SPORTS COMPLEX INTO A CID!!!
Kansas City political insiders are having trouble contemplating Mayor Funkhouser's lack of comprehension, skill and acumen when it comes to the way local government works. The latest example of Mayor Funky's incompetence is an idea he's currently floating regarding the Stadiums.
The latest local FAIL from The Mayor's Office:
MAYOR FUNKY IS TALKING ABOUT TURNING THE TRUMAN SPORTS COMPLEX INTO A CID IN ORDER TO RAISE TAXES ON THE PLACE YET AGAIN!!!
The CID taxes would help to cover Kansas City's $2 million dollar payment to Jackson County . . . The proposed Community Improvement District might also drive the cost of beer at The Stadium up to at least $20.
Sadly, I see the Funky logic at play here, this is an effort to make sports fans from JoCo and other suburbs pay their fair share.
UNFORTUNATELY, THE LAME PLAN WOULD ULTIMATELY TAX JACKSON COUNTY RESIDENTS TWICE FOR STADIUM IMPROVEMENT AND UPKEEP!!!
There's another reason for this Funky scheme as well . . .
During this Great Recession, the bonds for the Stadiums are under-performing. Really, all of local government needs a cash infusion right now. But this idea is one of Mayor Funky's worst yet as he still attempts to pay for his police scheme without the support of The KCPD.
What Mayor Funky doesn't know is that City Hall doesn't really have a say on what Jackson County does with the Truman Sports Complex. His ideas were patiently endured but really won't get any traction or consideration as anything more than a punchline.
So, I'm filing this post so it won't be a surprise if the Mayor lets it slip at the Public Safety and neighborhoods meeting today and also to note that his plan hasn't met with much enthusiasm within Jackson County and seems like some desperate scheme concocted by a lame duck politico.

ReplyDeleteIf KCMO were run by serious business-like people whose behavior earned the confidence and respect of others, the opportunities for regional funding for all sorts of worthwhile projects, including the stadiums,would have been possible.
ReplyDeleteInstead, the residents of the region watch the carnival at 12th and Oak and elected officials throughout the region ask themselves, "Am I willing to ask my voters to give these people our money?" You've got to be kidding.
Aren't there any serious people in KCMO who will stand up and offer some common sense? The election can't come soon enough!
