Rumor has it that there's a big battle brewing over leadership in the Water Department as rising rates are soon to become a reality. Because there are so few Latinos at City Hall, I can't say that the local Latino community is very engaged. However, I will note a housecleaning starting with the lowest man on the totem pole wouldn't be completely out of the question. So, dear readers it's up to you to decide . . . Is the fact that Bernardo Garcia is under fire part of a Northland plot to take out minority leadership in City Hall? OR do people really just not like the way he's doing his job?

ReplyDeleteBernardo is under fire because he is a bad manager and has screwed up the EPA issues and treats people badly. There is no "Northland Conspiracy"... that is a complete fabrication by Riley because he needs Bernardo Buddy to stay at Water so Terry can direct contracts to his pals. It's that plain and simple. If Riley denies have a confrontation with Johnson, then Riley is a liar.

ReplyDeleteGarcia has inherited some employees who were sent to KC Siberia... WATER or AVIATION. That is where they shove people who had political connections. People who have overstayed their usefulness. Let Garcia clean house of dead wood, then let him hire capable staff.
As for the upcoming contracts, sure, keep an eye on WHO gets a job and WHERE THE FREAKING JOB IS LOCATED! Northlanders IE white flighters, think that they are underserved... screw them and their puny hearts.
AND why let the one ranking Latino take all of the heat for a decades long fucked up department? He's incompetent? Shit, the Northlanders are carrying funk'd, talk about loser material!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteAgree with 6:04. Playing the race card about BG is just plain BS. Yes, rates have to increase. There's no getting around that. But you need someone in charge who knows what he is doing. Garcia does not have a clue and, worse yet, he is threatening to chase off what decent staff remains at the water department. He was hired to be Cauthen's "Yes Man", a luxury that Cauthen never had or deserved with Pogge or Buckler. Franklin was another story. The only thing Garcia has done with any degree of effectiveness is alienate those around him. Plus, he has managed to destroy the City's relationship with EPA. That's not a good idea when they already have the City's *ss in a sling. Get rid of Garcia and get someone in there who knows what he or she is doing!!
ReplyDeleteCauthen used Buckler to put together a master plan for getting the the water department on track for improvements and efficiencies. Then he forced Buckler out, claimed that HE (Cauthen) had put together the great master plan and brought in Garcia (who was a failure at his previous job). All Garcia had to do was follow the plan; instead he made a big mess out of everything and drove away a lot of good employees! No one worthwhile wants to work for him because he is a complete jack*ss and is incompetent. Everyone in City Hell knows that and wants him GONE!
ReplyDeleteBTW, this is typical of how Cauthen handles white direct reports --use their skills and knowledge, boot them out, and then bring in a minority to replace them. Yes, THAT is about RACE; but fixing Cauthen's racial appointees is about getting the job done, NOT race.
Having seen Mr. Garcia make numerous presentations, I can only conclude that this has NOTHING to do with race. I have no first hand knowledge of his management skills or lack thereof, but do know he is a lousy salesman for a department sorely in need of a champion.
