If you see the Dunn family in Kansas City today . . . They're probably dancing in the streets.
Just moments ago an appellate court upheld a verdict in a case between Dunn and a group of Hispanic Contractors.
Last month, Chris Hernandez over at NBC Action News filed the definitive guide to this story . . . After TKC reported on it for more than a year.
Anyhoo . . . The news of the verdict is important but it's not the end of the story. The case before the court was really one about standing on the issue.
Now it falls to the TIF commission to see if big companies are bound to honor their commitments when it comes to hiring minority contractors. The TIF Commission meets early next month.
A few dopes commenting on this case always confuse this issue . . . This isn't about the merits of Affirmative Action or hiring minority contractors - When J.E. Dunn signed up for Kansas City TIF cash - They already agreed to abide by Kansas City rules and regs which mandate the hiring of minority contractors . . . Not just front companies or cut and run payments to a few businesses.
This case is about a Kansas City company honoring agreements in order to receive a helluva a lot of TIF.

I think your last sentence drove the point home here T.
ReplyDeleteBeth shows her political skills again. Picking a fight with Dunn. Not very smart Beth, a lot of sharp people in the 4th would love Dunns backing. And remember people up North will not forget the P&L sponsorship.
ReplyDeletePlease. You don't know much about politics. The Dunns are stingy with their money and only offer crumbs to white men they can completely control.
ReplyDeleteThey won't be stingy this time. They're already pissed about their building deal which they almost backed out off.
ReplyDeleteGoodby Beth.
The Dunn's attended Mike Sanders' fundraiser last week and left big checks, so there goes a vote against the Dunns on the TIF Commission.
ReplyDeleteAffirmative action should be eliminated along with requirements to use minority contractors. This is NOT a level playing field.
ReplyDeleteSince it is a fact of life, they SHOULD abide by the requirements and punished for not doing so.
