If there has been one consistent detail that keeps arising from coverage of Mayor Funky's office, it's that he plays fast and loose with ethics regs. From light rail flubs to campaign finance rules . . . Kansas City's mayor finds himself continually coming very close to the line of what may or may not be ethical for his office.
Here's yet another example:
MAYOR FUNKY PULLED DOWN HIS PERSONAL WEBSITE ADVERTISING HIS BUSINESS SERVICES AFTER DOUBTS ABOUT THE ETHICS OF THE CONTENT WERE EXPRESSED DURING A DEPOSITION!!!
Anybody got an old copy of the site? Stupidly, I didn't save the fancy business-y version advertising the Mayor's speaking engagements and other services. Right now MarkFunkhouser.com reverted back to the guy's initial campaign lies.
Remember that TKC TIPSTERS reported the Mayor's recent second job . . . Still filed with the Secretary of State in Missouri.
Anyhoo . . . The controversey came from some of the photos, which were City property. Even though they're public domain for bloggers and such, there was some question whether or not it was appropriate for the Mayor to potentially profit from the use of City property on his website . . . Strangely, the Mayor backed down proving once again he's not very good at this Internets thing . . . And for the most part, he's clueless when it comes to his image.

Tony: Did you catch the part where Miller says Gloria told him that the mayor's goal was to only work 3 8 hour days a week??!! Tuesday, Wed, Fri, with Monday and Friday off/open so THAT HE COULD WORK ON HIS CONSULTING BUSINESS (a little past 2/3 way through part 1). Kaboom!
So this is where we could use the expertise of Rus Johnson. We need to ask him what to do. He will know what is ethical.
ReplyDeleteThe City Attorney's Office has been asked to look into the web site situation this morning. City funds were allegedly used to create content for the web site. It might also have been designed by a City employee on City time. Gloria saw no reason why City employees and contractors could not "help the cause." Also, the web site may not have been tied to the nonprofit corporation you are seeing on the Secretary of State's web site. We may be seeing a separate for profit corporation or LLC under Funkhouser/Squitiro's control.

ReplyDeleteThere is more than enough probable cause to launch a public corruption investigation against Funk and Squid. He should have brought a Civil Rights case against the two of them back when they were pulling strings to protect Old Lady Semler.

I happen to know that Kanatzar fired Lisa Honn because she told him that he needed to do his job and bring tough cases rather than plea bargain down capital cases and ignore public corruption.
Shame on you Kanatzar. If you did not have the balls to do the job you should have just remained Mike Sanders' bitch.

ReplyDeleteThe City Attorney is looking into the use of photographic content on the web site which was paid for by the city, after a fraudulent pay order was submitted claiming that the photos were for city business.
I wonder if that dicey request for payment was signed by Gloria Squitiro?

This is yet another example of how clever the "smartest man in the room" thinks he is. Not only does he think he is above the law, he thinks that he can do anything he wants because he is smarter than all of us and he can hide what he is up to.

I wonder what Dave Helling is going to do about this? I suppose he'd like to get a glimpse of that document? And if he tries to get it again and the Funk says it's missing, then it's time for a court of law to enter the delusional world of Mayor Smart With Nothinghouser.
