TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR MARK FUNKHOUSER'S SECOND JOB!!!

TKC TIPSTERS STAND UP!!!

You know, there could be an explanation to Mayor Funky's weird behavior, a reason that he never seems quite focused on what he's doing and the awkward way he handles Kansas City Business.

TKC TIPSTERS ARE SAYING THAT MAYOR FUNKY IS MOONLIGHTING IN ANOTHER JOB!!!

But don't just believe TKC, do your own research. Go to the Missouri Robin Carnahan's Secretary of State's site and look for Mayor Funky as a registered business agent.

Here's what you'll find:

The troubling thing about this new biz endeavor by Mayor Funky is that it was just established recently amid a lot of budget concerns in Kansas City, an important election and the constant trouble and drama that the Co-Mayor relationship is causing this town.

TKC used the Internets to connect the dots and I found even more interesting stuff. Obviously, the Mayor has always had an interest in auditing and during the Spring The Mayor's office hosted an expert from South Korean expert on the subject.
The Kansas City mayors office is hosting a visitor from South Korea for the next 18 months.

Dr. Ho Seung Moon, an expert in performance auditing, befriended Mayor Mark Funkhouser when Funkhouser was in South Korea researching his auditing book. Funkhouser said the South Korean government gave Moon an 18-month sabbatical and is paying for his stay in Kansas City. Funkhouser said he and Moon will work together on research in performance auditing. They are also exploring the idea for an international center for performance auditing.
And let's make something clear . . . Leaders/Owners of non-profits can make a lot of cash . . . So this isn't some do-good operation by Mayor Funky . . . It's a second job that could gain the Mayor some serious green.

Also . . .

THE MAYOR'S EFFORT TO START A BIZ COMPLETELY UNDERMINES HIS CONTENTION THAT HE IS WORKING NIGHT AND DAY FOR THE BENEFIT OF KANSAS CITY!!!

Once again, this is a Mayor who cares more about his own self-promotion and small business dealings than the job he was elected to do. TKC Tipsters contend that this small biz effort explains why Gloria Squitiro has so much influence in the Mayor's office, Squitiro is taking care of the job that requires less effort, in the minds of the Co-Mayor. So, I guess (once again) this is "a City that works" on jobs they weren't elected to do.

However, voters who elected a Former City Auditor to address the serious financial and infrastructure needs of Kansas City will undoubtedly be disappointed to learn that Mayor Funkhouser has more pressing priorities, like starting his own small business.

  2. well that should be the end of this GS fiasco as I thinkz the mayor should be resigning soon.

  3. he has a pretty fance webpage up and running too

he's such a fucking asshole - when is someone going to start a recall?

  4. Guess the raise he voted for himself wasn't enough. Fucking insane.

  5. I think he should resign and focus on his research before the taxpayers have to lose more money or hours of work out of our elected officials.

  6. I've been critical of Funkhouser.

But I really doubt that he is doing a bunch of work for whatever this organization is. Just because his name is registered as a business agent doesn't mean he's out to lunch all day.

Is he politically inept, have a downright weird hangup about his wife, and generally an embarrassment to the city? Sure. But I don't think he's a dishonest person or a cheat or whatever. His wife, sure, but not him.

For one, I've known business leaders who worked tirelessly at their jobs who were on the "board" for community organizations, but they did not entail much of a time commitment or were basically just titles.

  7. Could the Mayor just audit himself and find that he needs a recall?

  14. the good news is that as a nonprofit KC taxpayers can look at the non-profit's tax returns. This might give a glimpse into how much he's bringing in through his side (sham) business.

  15. Love the topic of Lurking Demons and Fat rabbits.. I thought of the Squid dressed in the Pink Rabbit Christmas outfit that Ralphie had to wear in the Christmas Story. I think we all know who the lurking demon is.........

  18. Mayor Ilus Davis -- continued working as a lawyer.
Mayor Charles Wheeler -- was a physician.
Mayor Dick Berkley -- still kept busy at Tension Envelope.
Mayor Emmanuel Cleaver -- was head pastor of St. James United Methodist church while mayor.
Mayor Kay Barnes -- well, she wasn't up to a lot outside of the job, but no one would have criticized her for doing so.
Mayor Mark Funkhouser -- can't catch a break.

  19. If his tenure as Mayor was going well I doubt most of us would care much about the Mayor’s auditor-nerd nonprofit. However, he's the subject of lawsuits and ethics investigations and inappropriate holiday letters and therefore every move he makes is under intensifying scrutiny.

He could catch a break if he had not dug such a deep hole for himself. I don’t feel sorry for him at all – he chose to run for office after which he chose to put his bizzare marriage before the good of the city. It’s too bad that he can’t practice what he preaches with the government accountability bit.

  20. If he is using his office to set up a business, that is different than helping run the family envelope company or lawyering. The man is just a poor excuse for a person, a mayor and leader. But lets keep him around for several more years. A more effective mayor could bankrupt us. Kay near did it.

  21. I'm waiting for why Kendrick thinks this all is the work of Mike Sanders et al.

  24. Ken-Dick needs to resign NOW.

We now have a better understanding of the crooked reasons why Funk dumped Joe Miller but promoted Ken-Dick. Papa Blackwood was raising cold hard cash for a tax exempt entity that only appears to have one expense -- Funkhouser. It is classic money laundering to cover payments to an elected official with a kick back in the form of a chief of staff job paid for with tax dollars.

Look at this bull shit. Funk gets a pension from the city funded with tax dollars. He also gets a salary funded with tax dollars. Now he is trying to draw a third income using tax exempt money from who knows where, and he wants a fourth income stream in the form of speaking fees.

And The Star missed all of this. I guess Kraske was just picking the lint out of his bellybutton and Helling was masturbating in the mens' room again.

I will not fault Deann because of her lovely red hair, firm round boobs and sexy southern accent. But if not for that triple threat she should be fired.

  25. Follow the money.

  26. he should have to disclose all financials...transparancy...
    accountability...

oh yeah - that only applied to other mayors - not him!

  27. Here is what happens when you mix a public official and a payments to a non-profit entity ....

    Illinois Gov Arrested

Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich of Illinois was arrested by federal authorities on Tuesday morning and charged with corruption, including an allegation that he conspired to profit from his authority to appoint President-elect Barack Obama’s successor in the United States Senate, prosecutors said.

As Mr. Blagojevich, a Democrat, mulled the Senate appointment, prosecutors say, he discussed gaining “a substantial salary” at a nonprofit foundation or organization connected to labor unions, placing his wife on corporate boards where she might earn as much as $150,000 a year and trying to gain promises of campaign money, or even a cabinet post or ambassadorship, for himself.

  28. So does all of this mean that Funky has been playing us and putting his time and effort into getting rich.
If we fire him does he get the typical "Kansas city School Superintendent bailout payments"?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'll bet Rus Johnson is in this deal somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I presume that he will need to file a disclosure statement showing all his sources of income. As to the Squid drawing money out of this, I suppose we can look at the State Non-For Profit filing to see what salaries are getting paid. Now that the scheme has seen the light of day, someone, preferably in law enforcement, will eventually take a peek at this. And if the Funk and the Squid are doing something wring, they will get tagged for it.

  32. Am bored, kids asleep, so was listening to the excellent Bill Grady interview. Tony: Did you catch the part where Miller says Gloria told him that the mayor's goal was to only work 3 8 hour days a week??!! Tuesday, Wed, Fri, with Monday and Friday off/open so THAT HE COULD WORK ON HIS CONSULTING BUSINESS (a little past 2/3 way through part 1). Kaboom!
