Killing a Kansas City neighborhood: Chiefs promote chaotic Club Zen!!!

In between half naked women selling beer and/or truck commercials during football games, players usually bring out some unfortunate youngsters in order to support the notion that professional athletes are a benefit to their communities. I've never paid much attention to these PR efforts because they're mostly half truths but more importantly they overlook the fact that a great many NFL players are horrible people who could care less about Kansas City.

To wit, the ad featured above promising Chiefs players at Club Zen touched off a nerve of many nearby residents and Midtown neighborhood leaders. Regular readers might remember that TKC documented a great deal of displeasure with the place on the part of neighbors last month.

Over the Summer the situation hasn't become any better and nearby neighbors are still beset with booming stereo systems, shady characters and near brawls almost every night.

Now, adding insult to injury, the appearance of Kansas City Chiefs players undoubtedly promises even more rowdy nights. Judging by details that neighborhood people are providing TKC . . . THE SITUATION IN THE PARKING LOTS SURROUNDING CLUB ZEN ON MOST NIGHTS IS A POWDER KEG!!!

The Chiefs contributing to this mess is a slap in the face considering how much tax money from Jackson County helps to keep them in a nice stadium. Sadly, somebody is going to have to get killed in order for folks to take notice of this dangerous situation that neighborhood people have continually raised, TKC has blogged and everyone who has ever seen the crowd after closing has acknowledged. Normally, I love telling people "I told you so" but some dead, hip-hop club patron probably isn't going to acknowledge my brilliance in any significant way.

  1. I go all the time. Come for the over priced drinks, and stay for the dark butts.

    What could be better?

  2. Dark butts that's nasty.

  3. Tony you are really relying on hyperbole with this one. Chiefs players show up to many local bars and there is almost never a problem. Believe it or not, I've been to Zen and inside the place is one of the nicest, upscale establishments in the City. Open your mind and don't give into the hate that so many people have against a club that is about hip-hop music in an upscale setting.

  4. Not to worry. I read in the KCNAG newsletter a couple of months ago that Psycho Beth Gottstein was going to fix this. I'm sure she just hasn't gotten around to it yet.

  5. Should be a big event for the jocksniffing community.

  6. All blood on the ground is red, all air breathers gasp for just a little more air as they die.
Death has nothing to do with color or music.
Been there seen that twenty years ago in L.A.
No need for more deaths year after year because the police can't do anything and a few club owners want to get richer.

  7. The problem isn't in the club, it is what the club brings to the surrounding area.

Instead of recognizing this and trying to do something about it, black leadership instead screams racism.

That is why the white establishment doesn't take the black community seriously.

    Duh.

  8. I agree with Tony. Nothing will be done until someone is murdered either in or near Club Zen.

  9. This neighborhood was a crime pocket before Zen and will be one after it closes. It's midwton for God's sake. It's always had a skank factor. People who want total peace and quite should not live near a bar and entertainment district, which by the way, was thriving before their gentrification a@@es moved in.

  10. 10:48 is dead on.

The owner of Zen is trash.

The club will decline until something bad happens. Until then it will drag down the whole neighborhood.

  11. I was driving home from work at 2:00am on Monday night at the KCPD had northbound Main Street closed at the intersection of 39th and Main. I was stuck at the light (forever... thanks KCMO) and got to watch the shenanigans.

The police officer with the car was socializing with visibly intoxicated (presumed) bar patrons stumbling around on the sidewalk in front of the building at the northwest corner. The officer was making no move to enforce the law (public nuisance, public intoxication), so I presume she was an off-duty security. And if that's the case, then she was using her KCPD patrol car to block two lanes of northbound traffic. Is that legal?

  12. If "the black community" wants a club where gangsters, wannabe pimps, and loser Chiefs can all hang out and sip Cokes together in an open and affirming environment, why can't they open a club somewhere in "the black community"? I mean, there's tons of available space at 18th and Vine that is 100% controlled by "the black community".

Perhaps its because a 100% "black community" club can't stay in business because the "black community" are all cheap moochers who don't buy drinks and don't tip and they need the white JoCo MILFs and their metrosexual hangers-on to also show up and actually buy something. And everyone knows those JoCo license plates will not park anywhere inside "the black community".

Maybe they should open up this club in Overland Park or Leawood or somewhere.

  13. Tony, I think you're starting to believe your own bullshit.

  14. Sounds like a big potential sausage fest to me.....You are right Tony. The only question is will it be reported in the sports section or the front page

  15. Sounds like a losing proposition to me. Even if you are performing at peak bar persona levels, you're still not getting out of there with anything but the 7th (however many Chiefs show up) hottest big booty blonde. Why take those odds?

  16. Now that is wisdom from the cock. Lolz.

  17. Off topic--Funkhouser should be riding the bus instead of pumping gas to pimp his transit plan.
Stop driving to work--be like the city employees who can no longer afford to drive/park downtown. And decrease your giant carbon foootprint--espeecially Gloria's giant bare foot print.
    Get on the bus.

  18. Close it down, seriously before somebody gets hurt.

  19. This kind of deal was going on on Broadway ten years ago with ball players getting their pick of the Jo broads and then some one got killed. It was moved to Westport and then the Xo Club. Now it is on Main. Do you think that conventionairs and other tourists are impressed with this type of hang out on the streets type activity. About the female cop that badge says she can do what she wants including picking up. Follow the money do you think that Ball players let a club owner use there names for FREE. Those guys are dumb but the owners know about getting the money and they teach the players the game.

  20. Tony why not call Petersen and ask him for a comment he is the man. maybe the chiefs have a silent ownership.
