Kansas City Weekly Power Rankings

In a week of titillating news focusing mostly on salacious allegations against public officials, our blog community takes a moment to dig deeper, celebrate Spring, and look behind the scenes at local leaders working to impact policy as the weather gets warmer and the KCMO murder count continues to spike.

To wit, check this week's power players in the local discourse . . .

Jackson County Prosecutor Mean Jean

This week she confirmed an investigation into Sheriff Sharp after his alleged three-way corruption fall from grace and today she led a community forum against violence. Like it or not, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker is stepping up her local profile as the leading law enforcement official in the metro.

Library Dude Crosby Kemper III

The richest top ranking Conservative in KCMO was on fire this week in his criticism of Jackson County and apathy among the civic community. His fiery comments seem to echo the sentiments of so many fiscal hawks frustrated with the local status quo.

The Two Council Scotts

Most people can't tell the difference betwixt the TWO SCOTTS on the Council and currently running for Mayor. Kansas City will spend the rest of the year bombarded with info that will only further the confusion.

Kansas SecState Kobach

Kansas SecState Kobach was charged with contempt this week as progressives pounce on his alleged lack of legal skill . . . And despite all of that, most still considering him the favorite as the next Sunflower State Guv.

Hillary From Lee's Summit

Hillary Shields is leading her race in terms of fundraising and hopes that she's part of the blue wave threatening the GOP as midterms approach.

Weather Dude Bryan Busby

This week, locals frustrated with cold temperatures engaged in fierce debate about global climate change . . . And seemingly forgotten newsies are making a comeback. Meanwhile, Kansas City's most popular weatherman continues to tout SCIENCE in all of his forecasts that are among the most accurate in town.

And so . . .

This list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's a weekly comprehensive guide to local powerful people, trends and our times.

  1. Only agree with Crosby here. At least someone is telling the public about the real danger of chaotic local government. If the elected leaders can't control themselves and stop their fighting, the public will follow suit.

    2. ^^^ Never in a million years. Outside of midtown very few people know who she is. You need to come up for air from Westport to see how the world really works. Sorry.

  4. Shields needs to fire her campaign manager & spend a few bucks on Daisy Dukes, 70s halter tops and Dolly Parton wigs. She could skip the Senate and go straight to the Governor's mansion.
