We've already highlighted this despicable mean tweet campaign that features the most dedicated liberals mimicking the twitter winning of more successful politicos like the Prez-Elect.
Example . . . 4th District At-large council lady jokes the future Prez before the election but she's probably not laughing now given the realization that she's in the heart of Trump Country.
But I digress . . .
The point here is that typically long lines across the nation and even in newer airports are going to be EXPLOITED by the single-terminal crowd in order to jump to false conclusions about the convenience of KCI.
The playbook is already out there and has its roots in the architects of the outgoing Presidential Administration:

And so, the holiday travel misery of Kansas City travelers will soon be used as a rhetorical ploy in an ongoing quest to garner billions of dollars for a new airport THAT NOBODY WANTS according to the Mayor's polling.

KC doesn't want a new airport and it's unclear that we really need one.
These deals that he's making with Southwest are shaky and shady as heck. Let's not sell KC's resources for a company that just wants a competitive advantage.
KC has said no to this and the Mayor should listen to his constituents.
Anyway Justus, who is basically worthless can be removed and someone who actually gets things done and listens can replace her?

ReplyDeleteIf we were overloaded with convention traffic i'd say sure, we need one. But, like most cities, conventions are less and less due to companies not wanting to spend. Or if they do, they go to places like Las Vegas. I agree with the above comment of this "mayor" fixing the city first. I mean would you want to visit a city in the top 10 for crime? People travel to cities for attractions and with the state of the plaza and westport, we sure as hell aren't going to see the convention days of the 80's anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I think KCI either needs some upgrades or needs to be rebuilt altogether. We are talking about a 40+ year old airport that was built when the metro was smaller. And there is a comfort factor here in which there are times when I've flown and been shoulder to shoulder in the fish bowl waiting for my flight.
ReplyDeleteThat said, the way that S'lie and all his cronies are going about this is more than shady and dishonest. If they want this to go over with the public, they need to start with 2 basic principles:
1.) Be honest and transparent with the public. Which is something that S'lie ran his campaign for mayor on but has failed to deliver on that promise.
2.) Find a way to finance this without screwing over the tax payers like every other deal that goes down in this town.
As far as everyone loving the ability to park at the curb and be steps away from your gate, I think that's an overblown need. Yes it's nice and all. But are we seriously making that the most important factor in this decision. The two I mentioned above are way more important IMO.
For me, I'm not even thinking about supporting a new terminal until the city meets criteria 1 and 2 mentioned above. Which I doubt they'll ever do since our city officials are about as corrupt as they come and are only concerned about getting money for their billionaire supporters and furthering their own legacies and agendas.
Correct! The best way to fuck up Kansas City is to jack with the airport.

Well, some tweaks costing a few tens of millions are needed, but not a boondoggle billion-plus project to produce long lines and difficult pickups like at most new airports.

Recently went to the airport and the short term parking was closed as it was said to be full. But as you drove by you could see lots of empty spaces. Do they just close the lot when it is mostly full or do they just want to inconvenience people so they support a new airport?

ReplyDeleteNow somehow the Dilbertville class decided that a new single terminal airport is the most important thing to throw huge money at, while the public is actually quite fond of the airport, and not convinced making the airport a mall is actually a great move.
Now the usual suspects are playing their "persuasion games" to make it appear that there is a big problem at KCI.
The public will quickly let their displeasure be known, and the hype machine will be punished, and believed about as much as it is on another half dozen issues.
Let them do their photo op, and then watch the public penalize them for the rest of their political careers. Now who profits from the airport if there is a new project, now that would be good to know.

They closed terminal A to put the squeeze on travelers and to make the airport look inefficient. What they need to do is make the repairs and remodel Terminal A and maintain it and the other terminals.
This is their own making by not maintaining these terminals, seriously folks, we need to VOTE THEM OUT!!
