TKC QUESTION: WILL KANSAS CITY PETITION AVOID TURNING CROSSROADS INTO BOOZY HIGH CRIME ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT?!?!

The slap fight betwixt Kansas City Crossroads petitioners vs. Tom's Town and their bar biz buddies is becoming increasingly intense.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY INSIDERS TELL US THAT THE PETITION AGAINST CHANGING CITY HALL LIQUOR CODES HELPS KEEP THE CROSSROADS SAFER FROM SHOOTINGS, VIOLENT FLASH MOBS AND CRIME THAT CURRENTLY PLAGUE WESTPORT AND THE PLAZA!!!

Here's the word . . .

"We don't the Crossroads turning into a bar district and that can happen more quickly than anyone realizes. This petition is about saving our neighborhood from opportunists and all the problems that come with a bunch of new bars popping up that don't have to play by the same rules as everyone else."

In fairness, here's a tech promo blog cheerleading article which extols the virtues of "entrepreneurs" who feel targeted by the petition that our blog KICK-ASS TKC BLOG community reported FIRST . . .

Entrepreneurs battle KC Crossroads developer over liquor law
But that's not the whole story . . .

THE KANSAS CITY CRIME CONCERN FOR THE CROSSROADS IS REAL AND BAR BIZ BUDDIES AREN'T BOTHERED BY THE IMPLICATIONS OF VIOLENCE THAT ALWAYS ACCOMPANIES MORE BOOZE AND LESS REGULATION!!!

Let's not forget . . .

Within walking distance of the Crossroads, there was a MASS SHOOTING IN THE 18TH & VINE ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT last Summer and let's not forget about street fights that have included fire bombs, and regular shooting, raping and trouble in nearby Westport . . . Like it or not, the Kansas City bar crowd always attracts bullets.

Still, we're the only KICK-ASS AND AWESOME KANSAS CITY NEWSY OUTLET to report on this hot mess in the making from objectively without cheerleading for drinking buddies or caving to power players. No, we're not waiting on a big check from Brad or bar buddy advertising . . .

But the question of liquor deregulation and the high risk of ensuing violence is increasingly important as Kansas City politicos work to connect 18th & Vine to the Crossroads.

Per ushe . . . We leave it up to our blog community to drink it all in and then decide . . .

  1. TKC, you're forgetting that there has been violence in the Crossorads already. Two years ago there was a string of robberies and don't forget a woman who was randomly gut shot coming out of a club before that.

Crossroads is already dangerous after dark. This might make it worse.

  2. Never fear. The streetcar should solve all of these problems and concerns.

  3. I might not agree with Tom's Town but I do 100% support the idea that it's very hard to do business win Kansas City. The permitting process always requires a lawyer. KC is NOT business friendly.

  4. This issue is bigger than the crossroads. The ordinance that Justus proposed will change the liquor code for the entire city.

  5. Crossroads needs a couple of tittie bars, Erotic City-downtown, and a gay bathhouse or two.
It did wonders for the River Quay in 1971. Bring back the good ol' Civella days.

  6. Who the hell is fighting who now here in the fucked up mess of a city?

    This Is Ridiculous!

  7. KC know it all5/13/16, 3:53 PM

Tom's Town and friends against Brad Nicholson and Crossroads people.

Too bad Jolie just couldn't wait a week until slapping some lipstick on this pig of an ordinance and putting it out there.

  8. If your insiders were real they'd know "flash mobs" are shit you dreamed up, niggerlover.

  9. Ask Sly if the flash mobs are real. They shot at him:

Keep on believing that violence in KC is a myth. The murder count says otherwise.

  10. The mayor can't keep his own block party safe,

    http://www.kctv5.com/story/29797207/violence-breaks-out-at-kansas-city-mayors-block-party-for-youth

How is he going to protect the crossroads?

  11. I don't give a damn about bar business but I will say that the only thing City Hall can do is screw up the success that small business has created in the Crossroads. The mayor and council have ruined everything they touch.

  12. Don't mess with plaza teens.

    They'll put you in a coffin -

Authorities want to kill ‘coffin’ trend after teens arrested on Country Club Plaza

A video published on YouTube shows two juveniles leaping backward onto car hoods Saturday night on the Country Club Plaza and stretching out as if they were in coffins. Police arrested the two, but the victims declined to pursue charges.

Still think the plaza is safe? Think again!

  13. Isn't this what the Crossroads toy train neighbors want?

Lot's of bars and shops that sell baubles and trinkets?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Which raises the question of course. What exactly is this thing called Sly's City Hall? Answer: A leviathan of symbiotic rackets producing maximum incompetence affecting adversely the majority of citizens.

  15. Hmm Crown Center blight petition was dropped.

I wonder if some Palooka's visited some people.

  16. Look at the language of the new ordinance that was passed and is now on hold. It actually gives property owners MORE power. Instead of 1 person or a small group of people dictating what businesses come into their neighborhood, it requires that ALL property owners have a 10% vote and that a TRUE MAJORITY of property owners have to allow the new business.

The only people that are complaining about the changes are the people who want to keep their monopoly.

This effects ALL areas of Kansas City, not just the Crossroads. It is bad for attracting new businesses in ALL areas of town.

Don't believe the hype and scare tactics and twisted logic of a small group of bullies. Jolie Justus did the right thing for small business.

  17. ^^^^ I read your comment. Now do I get a drink coupon?

  18. Jolie wants to be Mayor, it's not going to happen.

  19. Agree with @5:22 - The specifics of this legislation aren't so bad but that won't stop a petition from knocking it down.

Too bad Jolie wasn't a better legislator, she bungled the execution.

I'd say Jessica Burciaga makes the best "counter" point here!!!

  21. 5:11 As corrupt as this city government is wouldn't surprise me at all if people start getting roughed up who challenge this bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  22. We all know how to solve violence in any district. Enact a 'no blacks' rule. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Very doubtful that this will turn the Crossroads into a niglet drop off spot like the plaza. Not enough retail for the hoodrats to go steal from

    ReplyDelete
  24. 5:22, by "small business" you really mean bars and clubs, and 3:00 closings. Those of us who live in Crossroads do not support turning our neighborhood into a bar district!!! Jolie, stick to issues you know something about, whatever they are!

    ReplyDelete
  25. @10:16 do you really think you have any control? Do you really think that the councilman that sponsored the retaliation actually cares about what you, a resident, perhaps not even a property owner, thinks about this issue?

They laugh at your two cents.

They don't even represent your district.

Any neighborhood that is healthy is open to considering ALL types of new businesses and, in my humble anonymous opinion, should be allowed to come to a true consensus about it.

Before you get all riled up, realize what you are actually supporting.

  26. Jolie Justus is watching her political aspirations go down the toilet. I don't think it's wise to take on a multitude of neighborhoods .
We fought hard for these ordinances, and for good reason.
Those reasons have not changed, crime ,violence, noise and illicit behavior.
Bars take no responsibility for what goes on beyond their doors.
The damage done can haunt a neighborhood or block ,affecting everything from property values to higher insurance rates .
I noticed that many of the Bar owners do not reside in tbe neighborhoods theywant to do business in ,they dont even live in Kansas City.
Why do business owners thst obviously have no roots in KC,have so much influence over Jolie Justus.
I think its time to clean house , lets start with Jolie Justus

    ReplyDelete
  27. Clearly you are an idiot, the new ordinance gives property owners MORE of a say in who comes into their neighborhood, not less.
