Undoubtably: 13 children killed in the last year amid increasing gun violence is a trend that defines 2015.
Moreover . . .
The Mayor, The Jackson County Prosecutor and The Chief Of Police all gathered at the crime scene Tuesday night and the triple homicide not only rocked the community to its core but also sparked a great deal of public discussion. A review of this week without even a mention of the triple murder simply ignores reality in Kansas City.
This weekend they're starting to bury bodies from the tragedy and the dead deserve a mention even if it makes the newsie elite uncomfortable.
Now, KCPT has done a lot of great reporting and discussion about Kansas City's homicide trend . . . We know their heart is in the right place.
But overlooking this earth-shattering Kansas City homicide simply offers us insight into the local news game that, like everything else in KCMO, is divided along racial, income and cultural lines and simply doesn't value the lives of innocent babies killed by way of gun blasts in the urban core.
We won't rage over this snub . . . But denying the FACTS about media coverage disparity simply isn't an option.
MAKE NO MISTAKE, A TRIPLE MURDER AND THE KILLING OF AN INNOCENT CHILD IN KANSAS CITY'S URBAN CORE WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT STORY OF THE WEEK BUT SHOWS DIRECTED AT THE LOCAL MIDDLE-CLASS SIMPLY DON'T SEE IT THIS WAY!!!
A chicken and the egg argument about this disparity is pointless.
We'll simply conclude with this thought . . .
After urban core murders their is always griping about the 'stop snitching' culture and the lack of community involvement in the fight against crime . . . Today, we notice that mainstream media is also complicit in the culture of deadly silence accompanying horrific gunfire murder of the innocent in Kansas City.
Like it or not, there is blood on all of our hands as long as children are being gunned down in Kansas City and the trend is downplayed or otherwise ignored.
Well, TKC, think about it this way. It's public TV so you can't make an argument about being ratings driven. On this one the blame must be put on the donors who support it.

Such comfort could be taken at the grave sights and hospitals where those many victims try to recover from assault, rape and robbery from those "Gentle Giants", those victims of "White Privilege". We have always been a multi-ethnic country, & the Founding Slave Owners self-identified as Deists. The word Christian is in fact quite conspicuous in its absence. They were attempting to establish a secular republic (see amendment one.)
The majority may be White Christians, but that doesn't make our country a White, Christian Country. The intent of the 14th amendment was to prevent tyranny of the majority, & disenfranchisement of the minority, whether they be of African Origin, Chinese Origin(the first test case), Mexican Origin or LGBTQP,etc.
Of course, White Privilege asks that you not think too much about how this White, Christian Country came to be in the Western Hemisphere so far from home.

Everyone knows that North America was taken by force or by fraud or by trade from the Indians; but we never seem to talk about the Indians who were there before them. You might call those people the First Nations, if only we knew where they were sent by the Second. Down south the Mayans (my ancestors) were conquered by the Toltecs, who were conquered by the Aztecs, who were conquered by the Spaniards – who interbred with everyone they could find, and are now sending their children to reclaim a North America they never legitimately owned in the first place. If anything, borrowing this kind of thinking might give me a legitimate claim on Mexico – which I would pursue if only the Mexicans hadn't ruined it. And since these Black Lives Matter activists are living on stolen land, I would say (if it wasn't so damned unpopular) to send them back to Africa – but the Africans had already taken Black Lives Matter's ancestors off the land and sold them into slavery. So if we're going to be technical about it, Africa's been stolen, too.

It is bestowed on you. You either have it our ya don't. You can't be a victim of it. Blacks can and do survive without white privilege. And they move to the suburbs and get good technical careers. That's a matter of education, where your parents chose to live. I'm for shopping for school districts to educate kids and we did. We have black neighbors who have done similarly.

A big part of the ignorant white community are seeing their offspring lose their souls to more ignorance, hip hop culture, lack of motivation from home and by schools who are not teaching the importance of education and career planning to those who'se parents can't teach it.
I'd offer a single, isolated mass killing and other assorted crimes that aren't news. Leave the handwringing to TONY whose preoccupied with it. This isn't Chicago but even Chicago isn't preoccupied with crime. Just some parts.
I submit thats a cultural problem not a government one. Govt can't legislate morality, it can only incarcerate the immoral among us. Schools can do better but when administrations and union teachers basically teach the say as they, and their parents kids were taught, dont expect much change. My experience is that leadershuip mostly just wants a 'smooth school year'... and they don't have the imagination or training to modify their program to meet changing needs.
It was about 1983 or so when "A Nation at Risk" warned educators they were slipping and not much has changed but there are some computer labs in schools now, not just that one Apple IIe in the teachers closet. I don't see union teachers and textbook companies using the technology to really change instruction. Oh in isolated cases, but ya know, it's really hard for society to tell since their agents, the media, are forbidden to freely cover the schools. We have no idea what's going on behind those locked doors and aren't invited to come in and help them.
Educators are bureaucratic and if you know any, you know they make very bad students. Know-it-all teachers are virtually untrainable.
Don't look for more policing to solve the problems with our young people. Once you call the police, you waited too long for its much better to RAISE A KID RIGHT than it is to FIX THAT CHILD AFTER HE'S BROKEN. Promoting two parent families is probably the first, most effective step this culture needs to do. Just for starters. That won't be fixed with a few episodes of politicos and media people talking about it for half an hour in a public TV studio.
I think there is too much emphasis being put on the deaths of children. Death is fucking death whether you are 3 years old or 60. Whether or not it is a good thing depends on what you believe, but I can say I have never seen a Southern Baptist or Catholic that didn't want to hold off crossing over by any means possible.
