SHOCK!!! PRICEY KANSAS CITY POWER AND LIGHT PARTY DISTRICT TAB NOW APPROACHING $20 MILLION A YEAR!!!

Here's just a bit of bad news to start the weekend and give locals some insight into development FAIL.

THE ANNUAL PRICE TAG FOR THE P&L PARTY DISTRICT WILL NOW COST $20 MILLION!!!

Here is a line from the Biz Journal I think . . .

"Debt service on the KC Live project may cost taxpayers almost $20 million this fiscal year."

Remember that last year the price tag jumped to around $14 Million.

What's important here is that Kansas City's last eco-devo scheme clearly hasn't worked and NOW we're getting ready to make the same mistake via the toy train.

Developing . . .

  2. You have to spend money to make money! This will work over the long long long term.

    1. No it won't. It will price itself out of being competitive with other local bar areas and people will just go there. The only time p&l gets used is when there's an event in the sprint center. It would be different if we had a sports team there anchoring the whole thing but that won't ever happen.

  3. Yes, but in the long long long term we're all dead.
Kind of like downtown KCMO today.

  4. PRIME EXAMPLE of "civic development cheerleaders" "Fael"ed policies!!!

They also want to rush into building something/anything new, while having taxpayers foot the bill for something they never requested.

I hope KCMO voters reject the KCI single terminal and streetcar expansion, as overwhelmingly as they said NO to "translational medical research"!!!!

  5. And this is what our fearless leaders call a "success?"

  6. @10:32...who are you kidding? KCMO taxpayers will approve a tax on the air we breathe if it was on the ballot. Single terminal research and the streetcar will win and big.

  7. Got to love these taxpayer financed development schemes.

Cordish family has a roughly $116 million pie for the family parked offshore thanks to the "taxpayers".

  8. So we can't even service the debt on this boondoggle. Isn't that the bottom line?

  9. What a nightmare this city has become. Thank you Cleaver, Barnes, Funkhouser and Sly James, you have ruined what was once a great midwestern metropolis.

Next stop on the streetcar: Bankruptcy.

  10. Maybe Circo can put her nail salon expertise to work and dig us out of this hole?

  11. A shame. There used to be so much to do down there.

  12. Spirit receives a million plus, tax payers pay up. City Hall needs a few math courses. I say kick them all out and learn to count from jail.

  13. For $20Mill we can buy KJ A remote island and he can "hang out" far from the local authorities.

And, Cathy Nugent wanted us to pay how much $$$ to bring the Republicans here?

  14. Does anybody else miss the haunted houses? I do. They cost a lot less.

  15. CK train steams along to bankruptcy. Sly James, Russ Johnson and their cabal of advertising firms, lawyers and developers will be long gone when the shit hits the fan.

CKMo residents: move to Kansas or buy a gun. Whatever works.

  16. If you work in power and light, you should get 15/hr bottom line. I don't mind spending to make or whatever but all this looks like from here is the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer at an entertainment district for what remains of the middle class. if we're gonna spend $20 mil a year on this, it should all go to real estate developers and banks.

  17. *shouldn't
also yeah i guess $9 beers is pretty outlandish for most people these days

  19. I feel the P&L was a good idea in general. Downtown KC was dead/dying. So something had to be done. It was just a horrible deal for the city by Barnes and company and Cordish. I doubt Cordish is taking near the hit the city is for the failures of the district to meet projections.

But, KCMO will never learn. Bout to pour $100+ million into the street car and even more to expand it. Wonder how that will end?

  20. Holy fuck shit.

  21. Power and White show how segregation as a business model can work for Kansas City!

  24. I'd rather not.

  25. That will seem cheap compared to what the darn trolley will cost taxpayers every year.

  26. You know, I think we really need a convention hotel too!

    what's another $300 million?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Just another KC boondoggle stealing from the schools and police department. The two things we actually need...

  28. Damn seems like everybody gets food and drink on the taxpayers on this town.

  29. The Star - where you gor this - has corrected itself. I won't hold my breath for you to do the same.

  33. While growing up on the East Coast we used to hear of sightings of the fabled "white nigger" Until reading the post of anon 638, I dud think this backwards creature existed. Now that we know at least one of them exists, the question is, how are they hunted and when caught can they be barbaqued and eaten? Any thoughts, Tony's readers?
