TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY TOP ECHELON INSIDERS SOON TO PUSH FOR A COMPREHENSIVE CRIME PLAN THAT INCORPORATES REGULATED INDUSTRIES AND BOOZE CRACKDOWNS!!!

There has been little if any political leadership in the fight against so much deadly violent crime in Kansas City.

Mayor Sly didn't even mention Kansas City's homicide problem in his "State Of The City" speech this year and his legislative agenda reflects a complete lack of interest in public safety. Instead Kansas City's Mayor focuses mostly on real estate and economic development for Downtown and other affluent parts of the city.

Right now, a quick look at Kansas City Crime Stats reveals that we're at the same place we were last year when it comes to homicides. The numbers indicate there have been 96 KCMO homicides officially on record in 2012 compared with 96 at the same time last year. Actually, counting the murder of a young mom that might have been witnessed by her 3 year-old kid - We're really at 97 right now.

Despite a few new strategies and some chatter from City Council as the year started and the murders were REALLY out of control . . .

NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN KANSAS CITY AS FAR AS OUR MURDER COUNT IS CONCERNED!!!

In fact, some would say the problem has grown worse and now our murder count is part of a high national ranking for deadly violence.

To wit . . .

TOP ECHELON INSIDERS ARE NO LONGER CONTENT TO WAIT FOR MAYOR SLY TO ADDRESS KANSAS CITY'S DEADLY HOMICIDE NUMBER AND THEY'RE MOVING TO FORM THEIR OWN PLAN THAT STARTS WITH REGULATED INDUSTRIES!!!

Even a cursory analysis of so many shootings and homicides reveals that a great many of these violent incidents revolve around new clubs, troubled liquor store locations and other party venues. So . . . A community partnership that has yet to be "formalized" with Regulated Industries in order to control an uptick in local violence surrounding neighborhood liquor locations could prove effective. This tactic was used in the Rivermarket not so long ago when City Council politicos leaned on and shut down a violent hip-hop club but a written policy i.e. "a plan" might prove more equitable and easier to enforce across the board.

Of course there are problems . . .

Club owners have a lot of clout in Kansas City.

Let's not even get started on the topic of how much an angry young local rapper with a connection to Kansas City's highest office gets comped for his booze at a few local clubs.

Still . . .

What's clear is that Mayor Sly has failed to lead on the topic of violent crime. The result of Mayor Sly's apathy on this topic is that deadly Kansas City violence REMAINS UNCHANGED. In the absence of leadership it has become clear to TOP ECHELON KANSAS CITY INSIDERS that it's time to move forward without cooperation in order to address a topic Mayor Sly doesn't really like to discuss.

DEVELOPING . . .

  2. You mean we will not be able to call Dutch Newman and fix any problems anymore? No way!

  3. Wonder if they will crackdown on the illegls at the CAN center and arrest them. It would be amazing to see the dramatic decrease in crime if we stopped harboring the illegals. Wonder if any police hire them illegals to work for them. Interesting conflict of interest. No wonder they don;t arrest them.

  4. Maybe a crack down on crack would be the answer? These thugs stand outside the clubs waiting to sell you drugs as you exit, all drunken up. This is when you have poor judgement.

  6. Finally, Regulated Industries needs to quit letting clubs get away with murder.

  7. Which of Sly's political enemies are you serving as a sock puppet for here, TKC? As if anything short of societal change will slow the murder rate ...

  8. Sly will do nothing. Count on it.

  9. Social Change? What defeatist bullshit. Look around the country, other cities are lowering their homicide rates. The truth is that our elected officials don't care when black people die.

  10. Don't be fooled by the optical illusion: They don't care if poor people die.

  11. EXCELLENT POINT!

  12. Let me get this straight, with about 1.5% of the city's murders arising from actions inside or immediately outside bars, the answer is to come down on regulated industries with what will amount to a bunch of extortionary fines. They could at least *try* to make it less obvious.

  13. Time to pay up!

  14. Reality Check (1:05) is right!! Washington, DC, city with at least 50% more population than KCMO, and a city that is 65% black, has had 75 homicides in 2012--compared to 97 in KCMO. And, DC had 182 homicides in 2007--whereas KCMO had 94. So, why is DC's homcide rate sharply down since 2007 and KCMO's sharply up? Given the racial democgraphics of DC and KCMO, you can't say because DC has fewer black people. You can fight violence in black neighborhoods!! Sincerely and Respectfully, Ernest Evans

  15. I see the "TOP ECHELON OF KANSAS CITY " and regulated industries has our cities violent crimes handled.....what a joke, the TOP ECHELON OF KANSAS CITY do not have a freaking clue. You wanna start on the problem by all means please do....start in the jackson county prosecutors office then to go the robbery unit and look at how many cases they toss aside as soon as possible for any excuse they can dream up. Someone tell me why the robbery unit still handles gun crimes....I'm sure cops could overload TKC's servers with all the stories of potential cases some of those detectives refuse to take and/or actually work. I don't care what the excuse is....lazy, too heavy a case load, incompetent, untrained, don't like the arresting officer.... does it even matter? Something needs to be done about it....PATHETIC!
