TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! UNFORGIVABLE!!! MAYOR SLY FAILS TO EVEN MENTION THE WORDS "MURDER" OR "HOMICIDE" IN HIS MOSTLY POINTLESS STATE OF THE CITY SPEECH!!!

Talking to some very smart people about the remarks of Mayor Sly James and what he didn't say.

KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY MENTIONED K-PAC OVER AND OVER AGAIN BUT THE WORDS MURDER OR HOMICIDE WERE UNMENTIONED!!!

In fact, the "crime reduction" segment of the Mayor's speech was almost a throwaway section. He sadi that he has breakfast with the KCPD Chief once a week and sent a shout out to Jackson County Prosecutor "Mean" Jean Peters Baker.

More to the point . . .

IT'S A TRAGEDY THAT MAYOR SLY WAS MORE INTERESTED IN TALKING ABOUT K-PAC AND THE DOWNTOWN TOY TRAIN MORE THAN ANY EFFORT AT CURBING KANSAS CITY'S HORRIFIC HOMICIDE COUNT!!!

Check the KCPD Daily Homicide Analysis . . .

RIGHT NOW KANSAS CITY'S MURDER COUNT IS AS BAD AS ITS EVER BEEN IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS AND MAYOR SLY FAILED TO EVEN GIVE THIS FACT A MENTION!!!

Kansas City crime fighter Alonzo Washington noticed as much . . . And Mayor Sly's obvious neglect in this instance has been noticed by more than a few leaders from the urban core.

Mayor Sly constantly claims that he wants to be a representative for all of Kansas City but in this instance it's obvious that he simply forgot the deadly reality of this town's homicide numbers which influence our local life more than any other fact.

  1. He did not mention how disgusting it is for City Council appointees to send photos of their penis to women they meet on facebook either.

  2. What good would it have done for him to bring it up? KC murders are not something that the police, the mayor, the city council, nor anyone in government can stop. It is 100% the fault of those who are doing the killing and living the lifestyle which fosters this kind of behavior. Let's say a murder happens inside a house...how are the police supposed to prevent that? Stand on everybody's front porch as a deterrant? The homicide problem is something the black community must address within themselves and figure out a solution. KC has the highest per capita homicide rate among blacks in the nation. Seems like a good place to start addressing the issue. This is just one more way to put the blame somewhere else. "Blame the cops, blame the mayor"...fuck that.

  3. Was that Kathy Corwin's husband who was shooting pitures of his penis around?

  4. Slip Slyding away! He's completely clueless.

  5. 7:50 is right, in that public safety is not JUST a police issue, but unless you're in favor of vigilantes, the police are going to hve to be part of the effort to curb violence.
What the mayor could do, but has not even tried, is to call the perpetrators, their behaviors, their supporters, and their ENABLERS like the "leaders" who constantly offer nothing but excuses for any kind of behavior, including crime, to account. Instead the same old victimization/entitlement crowd gets appointed to city boards, is on the insider track for city real estate deals, is interviewed on TV and is quoted in the newspaper, even while the east side continues to empty out and deteriorate.
If there's going to be any success, stopping doing those things that contributed to the problem is a good start.
Reach down and work with the younger folks who are working with residents and neighborhoods to improve their communities instead of constantly greasing the same old palms.
That's what Sly could have said, and he let yet another opportunity go by.

  6. Light rail will solve the murder problem.

Why should the federal government (i.e., taxpayers who don't live in KC) pay for a rail line in downtown KC?

If KC wants and needs it, let KC pay for it.

  8. He didn't want to bring it up cause his new police chief's plan hyped plan has failed. If he points it out he calls forte a failure.

  9. Guess the mayor has forgotten that he grew up at 44th & Montgall (though he played that angle to his advantage during election time). He got the hell out of there and hasn't looked back. The only way he's going to act like he cares about public safety is if a murder occurs on his toy train or inside the K-PAC or maybe in the lobby of the future downtown hotel. Otherwise, its water off a duck's back to him.

  10. What goes around3/20/12, 10:27 AM

Greg Corwin of the Citizens Association and Southmoreland Neighborhood Association, an oppoent of working families, sending dirty pictures of himself? Someone who does that is not fit to serve on city boards and commissions I would say.

  11. Sly don't care about black folk. They don't contribute to his reelection fund!

  12. Sly doesn't care about murders. He only cares about a Downtown Hotel.

But the east side only voted for him because of their own racism.

    They get what they deserve.

Alonzo is not a "crime fighter", he is a reciever of tips. He recieves tips on his phone, in his mouth, and through his donut hole!

  14. Tony, I think it is time to report on who has been hired to shill for this Downtown Hotel again. Are the same developers and lobbyists (or shall we say "consultants") involved?

  15. Like any ol' homey who made it good,

Sylvester don't give a shit about the hood.

  16. Sadly,

    Murder will continue to happen.
Reasons could stem from all different kinds of problems. A majority the DRUGS floating around this city.
& I'm not talking marijuana or even a few lines of coke.
    WET HEADS/CRACK HEADS.
I'm speaking from experience I was attacked by a person on Embalming fluid. or a "Wet Stick."

People owning money for drugs in vast amounts.
There is also such an intense need to impress and prove yourself in adolesence now that DEATH is sometimes a solution to the most petty situations.

Things that aren't new, but also somehow need to be cracked down on.
The little programs that we show our children don't scare them enough to see the effects that these things can have in the long run!!

There are so many half-ass parents, and not referring to all of Kansas City. Young Mother's and Father's who just care about weed and other activities who don't take the time to provide a Moral Compass for their kids.

I was at a local park and heard a 10 year old boy, shouting "I'm a gangsta, you don't get ****** up."

There is a PROBLEM Kansas City, and it's battling what Media presents for our children, the distorted image that doing nothing with your life but prositution, drugs, and relying on solely the GOV'T to raise a household, <-- Which is GREATLY abused.
This is an epidemic that should have been addressed, but has to grow from the home, to the neighborhoods, to the communities, and PARENTS need to try HARDER! Don't just throw the towel in: Raise these babies to be all they can be, not all they can smoke, snort, shoot, dip, pop, or inject!!!

It's ALL of OUR RESPONSIBILITIES TO GIVE A DAMN!-
