TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! CONTRARY TO KANSAS CITY STAR COVERAGE: JACKSON COUNTY LAYOFFS HAVE ALREADY HAPPENED!!!

Kansas City dead tree media has few resources and not enough time to check out the facts that run contrary to political spin.

And that's why we have press release copy like this from Jackson County . . .

Thanks to better-than-expect response to an employee buyout program, Jackson County has averted extensive layoffs to plug a $4 million budget gap.

Whatever.

What's really important . . .

JACKSON COUNTY INSIDERS HAVE TOLD US ABOUT LAYOFFS THAT HAVE ALREADY TAKEN PLACE IN THE COUNTY ASSESSOR'S OFFICE!!!

The Star is reporting straight up political spin.

But let's do that math . . .

The County Executive warned of layoffs in an open meeting not so long ago.

And then . . .

Jackson County Legislator Theresa Garza Ruiz provided a great deal of info about upcoming layoffs.

To wit . . .

THE PRESSER FROM JACKSON COUNTY TODAY DOES NOT PASS THE SMELL TEST AND THE NUMBERS DON'T ADD UP!!!

What's worse is that there are people in the Assessor's Office who know that this media statement is nothing but spin and a slick definition of terms.

Sadly, this blog is probably where the story stops because the County Executive may have more than a few enemies but he's still exceptionally media savvy.

Developing . . .

  3. Its funny how Sanders creates spin and the Star buys it and two weeks later says its all wrong. No wonder I no longer take the Star.

  4. The reason he never comes to work is the employees hate him.

  5. The County is top heavy on the second floor alot of salaries so i would image its hard to lay off when you have people making over 100000 a year.

    Mr. Tony,
When is a downsize a called downsize? Not if Skippy is involved. His staff makes a whole lot of money and the poor rank and file scrap by on less that 32K. Staff has been quietly let go. Of course Skippy runs the names past Tindall first.

I am sorely astonished that this failed politician is setting up a committee to run for County Executive again. Skippy failed to fulfill his duties as Chairman of the State Democratic Committee. He failed in raising the needed campaign funds to help our candidates. Does he think all of these folks will forget when he is up for retention? Indeed they will not.
If Victor Callahan decides not to challenge Skippy, I pray Teresa will step up her game.

  12. Given the fact that the folks in the county assessor's office came out and inflated property values in the wake of an economic nightmare, I hope those laid off aren't dumb enough to put their last job on their resume.

  13. Prosecutor also let 14 people go. Yes many took buy outs but after being told they were on the list to be laid off anyway.
