Jackson County Legislature 1st District At-Large Office of Theresa Garza Ruiz
I'd like to share with you some information I received regarding the fiscal status of certain County departments.
Due to cuts at the State level, the County will be facing a shortfall of approximately $1.3 million in Assessment and $800,000 in the Prosecutor's Family Support Division. Additionally, a change in how Missouri collects sales tax on the purchase of out of state motorized vehicles will slash revenues by $1.8 million.
At this point we are looking at all options in order to maintain a balanced budget for next year. I hope the impact of these cuts to our employees is minimal but unfortunately a reduction in force is one of the options on the table.
As we began 2012, we projected revenues to increase by 6% but the cuts passed on to us have offset those gains and have placed us in a very difficult position.
As always, I thank you for the opportunity to serve.
