THE OVERWHELMING KANSAS CITY INTERNET CONSENSUS IS THAT THE DECISION TO KEEP THE PUBLIC OUT OF THE CROWN CENTER FOUNTAINS WAS AN EFFORT TO DRIVE AWAY BLACK PEOPLE AND LATINOS!!!
What's unfortunate is that discussion of this fact has been ghettoized on the Internets and mainstream media is suppressing most of these sentiments.
While nobody cares about the opinions of comment troll "N-word Guy" there have been a bevy of more thoughtful insights on this topic from Chuck, J.W. and countless other folks taking both sides of the issue.
LIKE IT OR NOT THE CROWN CENTER FOUNTAIN DECISION HAS AN ELEMENT OF TACIT DEMOGRAPHIC SELECTION (I.E. RACISM) TAINTING THE DEBATE AND WHAT'S WORSE IS THAT KANSAS CITY MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS ATTEMPTING TO KEEP THE SUBJECT QUIET!!!
Remember that TKC TIPSTERS broke this story on Tuesday morning and put it online and on blast before anybody else . . . So we've really seen all sides of the discussion on this blog. Even the proposed boycott.
I'm kinda drowsy this morning so I'm not gonna feign outrage . . . Civil Rights struggles are more important than corporate dictates from companies with paper based (dead tree) biz models slowly going down the tubes.

THIS SAD AND KINDA RACIST SITUATION REMINDS US OF MAYOR SLY'S UNFULFILLED PROMISE TO FIND MORE ACTIVITIES FOR AFRICAN-AMERICAN YOUTH AT THE START OF HIS TERM!!!
The Mayor talked about creating alternatives to loitering and MORE THAN A YEAR LATER nothing has materialized from those words but a few press events and absolutely no legislative commitment.
And while Crown Center has the right to do whatever they want on their property . . . The fact is that this effort smacks of discrimination and bigotry aimed at minorities. As much as The Star and other corporate media would like to limit the discussion . . . The fact is, from the start of this hot mess most people suspect ethnic and racial discrimination as part of the decision that motivated Crown Center.

ReplyDeleteCountless times I have observed mothers of several races shed their babies diapers IN THE WATERWAY, pooh and all, and leave the diapers to disapate its holdings onto the area other children are playing. This isn't racist.

When African Americans stop going straight to the "Racism" accusations, and as a group, as a community, as a race, acknowledge loud and clear, vociferously and stridently that crime, murder, rape and assualts (Violent crime is what really counts.) are part and parcel of an African American culture that must be changed, and that the onus for that change falls categorically on them, as parents, citizens and Americans to fix, then this conflict, this culture war, this chasm will erode at light speed.

The ability of the main stream press to hide, obfuscate and 2nd party blame for African American violent crime and in this case, would be African American behaviour, is a lost cause and, in the face of thousands of blogs all over the United States informing people of the truth, counter pro ductive to their (Main Stream Media) purported agenda.
When Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, two race-baiting snake oil salesmen, grifters, charlatans and documented liars, are allowed to speak for an entire race, the general public KNOWS that anything associated with theri efforts is a lie or a farce.
These actions hurt African Americans FAR more than any white people.
A cold, logical, honest and forthright look at the facts of African American criminality and the dissproportionate amount of the criminality, by large numbers of African American leaders, politicians and community spokesman, not only on a per capita basis, but in fact on a numerical basis is exactly what will SAVE and promote the best possible outcomes for the African American community.
No one, not even African Americans in my opinion, believe the bull shit anymore. Those civil rights excuses are drowned out by the silence of disgust present in folks all over America that now know the truth.
Face the problem. Shout it out to the roof tops and the resutl will NOT be opprobrium, but co operation and a re newed effrot on the part of all Americans to face and mitigate the violence that is so prevelant today.
This effort, will only get wheels, when a majority of African Americans realize that it is in the best interest of all African Americans to change the culture, change the knee jerk defensive paradigm, change the thought process, change the results, then, change the world.
I just don't think this one is really about race. I think it is about some threat of a lawsuit from someone whose kid stubbed a toe or picked up a fungus. They might not have even been injured there but the the fountain is getting blamed. I think this is about people wanting to sue now days for every little thing. So while in the past a kid might have slipped and a parent put a BandAid on and got over it. Now everyone wants a buck.
ReplyDeleteIf they ban the splashing then everyone there is a tresspasser and if hurt Crown Center has some defense. A sign alone won't get it. They have to make it off limits then it is really splash at your own risk.
I worst I think it could be about shutting down the free attraction for kids to push more people to Lego Land, etc.
Race I think is the read herring this time. Sorry guys. Like I said in the other post if you looked the kids in the fountain were all races.

Question, Tony. If the Star wanted to "limit the discussion" about the Crown Center fountain, as you claim, then why did they allow Mary Sanchez's column to appear in print? A column that you've linked to, I might add.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who works at one of the businesses around Crown Center, I have no problem with this decision, even though it indirectly affects me. (I freely admit to having taken a quick walk through the fountains to cool off from time to time). Race was/is not a factor in this decision; people of virtually all races and ages used it. Horrible parenting skills and a lack of respect for others, on the other hand ...
Frankly, when I heard someone proposing a boycott of CC because of not allowing brats to play in the fountain, that made the place more appealing to me. Putting up with other people's little contributions to society running around and screaming is not my idea of where I want to be, and not having people around who think their little darlings (of any color) are entitled to annoy others is just icing on the cake. A double win.

It’s all about racism. Just like when someone get pulled over in the part of town they live in, if they are not white it’s racism or profiling. i think the best way to solve this is for crown center to just shut the damn fountain off. "under repairs" signs would fit right in with kc's broken water delivery service anyway.
ReplyDeleteI don't get this at all. Crown Center's justification for shutting them down was safety and sanitation of all people who were using the fountains. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that people are turning this into a racial issue. Craziness.
