"I went to Power and White (Light) this weekend, and I noticed that they are now charging $10 bucks just to get into the live area. That's all good, partially understandable seeing that a lot of folks will come down and just stand in the open area without going into any of the bars, but I noticed that they ONLY accept debit/credit cards to get in. While standing in line for about 10 minutes, I saw inordinate amount of folks turned away (majority African-American) because they didn't have a debit or credit card.
Shit seems like class discrimination to me. I mean, this policy is clearly designed to work against the poor, who also pay/paid taxes to have the damn thing built. I asked the guy taking the cards why the new policy was implemented, he smiled and said "crowd control" I told him thanks, but no thanks, and me and my group of friends left. I couldn't take part in that."
We're sure to have more on this but an accurate depiction of the P&L District fail is certainly worth noting . . . With more places inside the District closing up shop it seems like they're getting desperate and, of course, people of color and the poor are the first to be subjected to a crackdown.

Visa Gift cards are loaded with a set amount of funds on the card and can be used for multiple purchases for as long as value remains on the card. Additional funds cannot be added later if the card is a non-reloadable gift card. The grocery store inside the P&L District and most drug stores sell them. What is the big deal???

ReplyDeleteJust for safety sakes I wouldn't want an employee of mine taking cash in an environment like that. Two reasons: there is no way I could control internal theft by the employee taking the cash. No real businessman would allow an employee to have total control of that cash. Second, as an employer I am responsible for the safety of my employees. Allowing them to hold a large amount of cash in an environment that provides little control is a recipe for disaster. It may be that the idiot tasked with collecting the charge just didn't know why the management changed the process.

Maybe that's suggesting the reason behind this new P&L regulation given the recent shooting at Westport and the parking garage attack a couple months ago.

My friends and I never go out with much cash. Too hard to pull together and really don't trust if I'll keep track of it. Also worried about loss to robbery. Shit even the cabs are now taking credit cards now, one of the taxis I rode in last week has a touch screen device which was very easy. No doubt most of P&L's target demo is like me and has credit cards.

I work at p&L and was told it was because the district was getting too dark on the weekends and it was driving away all of the normal patrons because of the loitering, crime, and image that cordish wants.

I have no interest in going there and no interest in paying for it through my tax dollars. I am aware of people who have been jumped within P&L confines and, while the cops eventually intervened, the damaged was already done. It's hard to imagine that robberies would not occur.
