Kansas City's "Orange Revolution" still on!!!

Awesome!!! Once again The Star has exonerated the Funkhouser Administration!!!

Today, there's another attempt to explain the case of the missing 80k.
The records also shed light on the campaign’s original Jan. 15, 2008, spending report for the last quarter of 2007. That report had listed six reimbursements to Squitiro for more than $5,000.

An amended report for the same period, however, showed many of the same amounts listed as actual expenditures with vendors. For example, a $300.47 “reimbursement” to Squitiro in the Jan. 15 report was listed in the amended report as a $300.47 payment to AT&T for phone services.

A receipt for the AT&T bill was among the documents provided by the campaign.
AT&T they say. Huh, I wonder if that has anything to do with the the AWESOME NEW IPHONES PURCHASED BY MAYOR FUNKY AND CO-MAYOR SQUITIRO!!! Why? Because AT&T has an exclusive deal with Iphone until 2012 . . . And we all know that the Co-Mayor's using campaign funds to purchase luxury items is completely ethical according to the Star. Or at least, I'm assuming as much because the reporting is so vague and biased. (I blame the Mansur dude because Helling is hella good)

Also, even more questions arise regarding Gloria Squitiro & Crew and their penchant for big ticket items.

TKC reported on the luxury dishwasher from Williams Sonoma last year purchased by The Funky Bunch . . . Again, The Star doesn't like mentioning name brands but I think it's kind of funny that these so-called advocates of "regular folks" are out making purchases at pricey venues . . . All my friends and family buy washing machines from Sears but maybe that's because we're broke as hell and the place has pretty good deals.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to point out there are a lot of details left out of the Star's reporting and I've filled in quite a few (some of which are actually correct unlike most of my writing!!!).

But all of these facts signal that The Funkhouser Administration IS NOT IN THE CLEAR with the Missouri Ethics Commission as Kansas City's paper of record is suggesting. It's actually kind of strange since I've never seen a media outlet so desperate to advocate for the cause of their buddies within their news pages . . . I thought that kind of thing was the domain of bloggers, I guess I have some competition after all.

Even worse, this isn't the only obstacle in Funkhouser's way.

Kansas City's Orange Revolution (ugh) is also facing:

  • Consequences from The Mammy Slurs and the ensuing EEOC lawsuit . . . Remember that? The Star doesn't seem to . . .

  • KC's Budget Crisis and the cruel cuts that are soon to be proposed . . . Mayor Funky doesn't care about your inner city youth programs if you're not one of his supporters, this is going to be abundantly clear in the next few days.

  • The steel plates . . . The City Auditor knew there was nothing he could do, he just didn't count on "ordinary folks" remembering his fanciful promises.

  • And then there are questions about gifts sent to the Funky Bunch and even more of their "rag tag" accounting.

  • On the bright side, here's a photo gallery of Denise Milani (barely) in an orange tank top.

All things considered, I'm really surprised that Funkhouser has so many fans in his corner at The Star and that their bias is reflected in a great deal of their reporting. Just like Funkhouser, there seems to be the assumption that the "ordinary folk" can't put two facts together or don't have a memory that lasts longer than a year.

TKC respects his readers and that's not only why I make a few connections on this blog but also why I intentionally mislead my readers because I have faith in them to figure out things for themselves.

Also, photos of big boobie broads nearly busting out of their tops benefit us all.

    1. You really have it out for our mayor. I hate to admit that in a couple of instances you are correct. But not as much as you think or what you're missing. Face it Tony, you make a lot more mistakes than The Star.

    2. Tony doesn't make mistakes. He makes 'jokes'.

    3. I thought he was trying to call it satire now. LOL!

    4. $1500 for a dishwasher! It must load itself and run super silent. I bet it is one of those Swedish stainless steel (2) drawer models. Listen, that is cheap compared to the light rail boondogle being proposed for this city by kcata, most of the city council and of course that specially appointed light rail task force made up of pro light rail advocates. Though I hear there is one person on there that keeps criticising light rail and promoting Rapid Bus Routes. I am told he keeps pointing out to the light rail faithful that you can build a whole Max rapid busline for the cost of one half mile of light rail. I wonder what he'd say about the $1500 dishwasher.

    5. You didn't mention the $1100 refridgerator. That is price for civil servants. I bought a nice one for $550. I take it, you think $1500 for a dishwasher is too much but $1100 for a refrig is okay? I think we need to get someone to take photos of these items and to mix in with the beautiful women you paste into the blog.

    6. And I thought the Mayor could go a full week without a scandal. Stupid me.

Where is he by the way? Out of town again?

      ReplyDelete
    7. At least there is still one news source in town that has the resources to check the facts - and not just spout off unsubstantiated drivel - and get the story straight.
Can we get a list of all the fabulous newshound BLOGGERS in this town who have bothered to check Ethics Commission documents and reports? That list is about as long as the list of BLOGGERS who do their own research, fact checking and reporting.
That list is a blank piece of paper.

    8. Are you talking about the star? I think it's obvious they leave a lot of facts out if they don't like them.

    9. I don't know what kind of ghetto-ass fridge store the earlier post shops at, but I poked around Best Buy last week to buy one and the cheapest was a bare-bones, chinese made Haier which was $853.

Most units were between 1000-1200 dollars.

The outrageous ones with the lcd tvs or the drawers or crap like that were around 2500.

    10. Tony's unit has always been cheap and small. Bwhahahahahahahahahhaha!

    11. The Star raised a question. The Mayor answered. End of discussion Tony. You think you're digging up information that's old news and trying to make it sensational.

      ReplyDelete
    12. Now that they have accounted for the money will you please shut the hell up dammit!!! Getting tired of all this crap you spout out with no proof!

      ReplyDelete
    13. How did they account for it?

      ReplyDelete
    14. Why would the Mayors office even need a family size refrig? If Mayour Barnes did have one, why does this mayor need one. Sounds like the wife is extravagant with political contributions. Next time I give to a campaign, and I did contribute to Funkhouser's, I will wonder is this for the campaign or a dishwasher.

      ReplyDelete
    15. Get over it Tony. Your guy lost.

      ReplyDelete
    16. I think that's the point that Tony is trying to make. The Star ran this article using only the Funkhouser's side of the story. The Ethics Commission can't comment until they rule and The Star knows this so they have an article full of nothing but one-sided quotes. As a former reporter, I know this is a common trick that they use and they're not fooling anyone who actually reads the details.

      Good work Tony! ;)

    17. I call bullshit.

      On Tony.

    18. While Tony has hyped this story to some degree, there are some serious questions regarding this:

1)The ammended committee reorganization posted on 2/21 lists the Funkhouser for KC committee address as City Hall. Is it legal for an officeholder to use his/her government office to help solicit funds?

2)The committee is listed as a "Continuing committee". In order for a committee to be in this status, it cannot be formed, directed or controlled by a candidate. Why then was it listed as a candidate committee until 11/29/07 when Gloria Squituro (this is seen clearly on the copy) changed it to a continuing committee?

      3) Why does the amount of the loan given to the committee at the start of the campain by the Funkhousers keep changing? On the 40 Day before primary election, it was first listed as $29,232.71 on the report dated 1/18/07. Next, it was changed to $29,858.32 on the amended form dated 1/14/08. On the final amended form dated 2/14/08, the amount was listed as $29,388.47.

The only legitimate reason this amount should be changing is that it is being used to adjust for other discrepancies in accounting for the money (and that's assuming those adjustments are legitimate). If it is legitimate, it is an example of an egregious sloppiness that a former auditor should be appalled at.

      3) Why is the date the loan was received listed as 12/2/07 when the 40day before primary filing accounts for money received immediately before 1/19/07? Did the Funkhousers realize how sloppy their finances were and decide they would just adjust this amount at a later date to bury whatever donations/expenses they wanted to hide?

      4) Why were there so many anonymous donors? The anonymous donors almost exceed the max amount allowed by law (.91% versus 1%)?

These are only some basic questions I can see looking at these amended filings. One would think the Star's investigative staff would see these issues as well and ask some questions about them.

    19. I along with a few others contributed early to Funk's campaign because we wanted him to win. After he unexpectedly won the primary the rent seekers had to contribute the big bucks. If he spends their money on toys I don't care. They give him money thinking they can bribe him and he takes it because he can and why not take money from your enemies?

      ReplyDelete
    20. You really need to stop placing the blame on the mayor for the budget. Thats Cauthen's doing. The Mayor is aggressively trying to get it changed.

      WAYNE CAUTHEN IS A CROOK.

    21. 10:28 - Amazing job deciphering the report. It seems not so much suspicious as just plain sloppy. I've heard the biggest issue that might elicit a fine is a charge that Funkhouser knowingly turned in sloppy books.

    22. Great post Tony! I've missed you so much...been having to take care of grandma full-time, haven't gotten to read or write for months. Just wanted to pop in and say hello.

      Hugs to you.
