The Burning Question OR KC in Flames

I'm uncertain but I'm guessing that not since the grand mob era of the 70's and early 80's has Kansas City had a car explosion and dead bodies turn up in the backseat of a vehicle like it did this weekend.

And while these dudes have been described as "Hispanic" by some, the truth is that we'll probably never know exactly why they died in one of the worst ways possible; other than drowning in a vat of sulfuric acid, of course.

So the real question here is obvious: Will Mayor Funky speak to the issue of violent crime in Kansas City in a more substantive way than simply just citing neat statistics and then doing NOTHING in terms of leadership?

In a year that has already seen a local gang war, Mayor Funky has provided even less leadership than Mayor Kay given that at least she had Alvin Brooks to deflect questions whereas the Funky Bunch has neither connections nor credibility in Kansas City circles that normally work to help in the fight against crime.

In one instance after the next, Funkhouser has alienated so many people in "the Black part of town" and the Latino Community that he literally has trouble finding people to meet with in these not so insignificant KC constituencies.

And while most suburbanites and local talk radio callers would gladly ignore the violence in the minority communities of KC proper, people who live in this town know that the same violence has a bothersome way of spreading to surrounding communities and all across the city. Like it or not, we're neighbors.

Therefore people who really know politics and crime in Kansas City Proper know that sooner or later Mayor Funky is going to have to address a problem which he is completely unqualified to handle . . . And maybe THAT is why he's putting off the topic and dealing with more important problems like Hannah Montana tickets.
