Super Dave: Is It Us Verses Them?
As I said on an earlier post about the larger cities controlling the vote in Kansas when you study the counties and how they voted in this past election it becomes glaring factual.
In short on average more or less 8 counties control the political theme for the state of Kansas. Kansas has 105 counties the fifth state with the largest number of counties in the nation.
Adam Hamilton only won in 11 counties while Roger Marshall won in 94.
Cindy Holscher only won in 8 counties while Ty Masterson won in 97.
Sharice Davids only won 2 of the five counties in her reelection bid.
Now Davids tried to make it sound like she was there for the farmers and cattle operations in Kansas campaigning in all and Facebook how she was doing such great things for the farming operations but the three counties she covers where such farms are located disagreed as they voted against her by 71% in Anderson county, 59% in Franklin and Miami counties. The good people of Johnson and Wyandotte County controlled the election against the desires of 3 other counties. But does northern Johnson County control the southern rural part? Sure it does no question about it.
Should we fear that the votes of rural America are being drowned out by the votes of those in the larger cities of the state? But those who favor the popular vote don't want to see those in the rural areas having an equal share. The argument of today's politicians is often about equal medical care for those in rural areas but ignoring the fact those folks don't have an equal say in elections or needs. We need our farms and livestock operations but are seeing politicians who have no clue how farms operate but deciding laws related to such while the farmers and the small towns around them have little say in the matter or the elections.
There are people who hate our so called electoral college but I for one support it as it equals out the voting power of the people. It keeps one part of the country from shanghaiing the other part. Just think how 90 plus counties of our state must feel when they go to vote feel when the results come in and the candidate they liked never had a chance against the other 8 or so counties. It would be like you know your son is an awesome quarterback but 25 other parents hate you and voted against your son ever being allowed to play. Welcome to politics where it sometimes appears like your vote is a meaningless joke.
Speaking of a meaningless joke, did you all know that voter turnout in a lot of the rural counties was as low as 20%? Do you wonder if turn out is so low because they do think their vote is a meaningless joke? Looking at this election you would have to wonder if that’s indeed the case.
