Some of our social media friends tell us that this disaster spread over a few blocks and involved competing house parties . . .
Of course fun times attracted others that weren't invited to the shin dig.
We honestly didn't think it would make the news but the online sensation and scant deets resulted in some good reporting that confirms the ruckus but disputes some of the other "rioting" rumors. To be sure it was a disaster and a bunch of youngster running around streets at night which isn't a crime in and of itself.
We'll look for more follow-up when we find it . . . For now, here's what we know that isn't just gossip or panic:
"Kansas City police say six teenagers are in custody after reports of shots fired in the Brookside neighborhood on Halloween night. According to the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), officers were in the area of 63rd Street and Walnut Avenue in regard to a large group gathering."
Also . . .
"We think Mayor Q's comments might relate to this . . . But also two other KCMO homicides that took place overnight . . . Here's his cryptic rebuke . . .
"Many are sharing a post that falsely suggests a number of shootings and homicides yesterday in the City that's grossly inaccurate.
"The Kansas City Police Department releases official information on incidents in the City. I recognize influencers on social media serve a growing role in conveying information. That said, not all information is accurate or presented accurately. Use your judgment in what you believe and what you share, as you should with any messenger.
"We grieve for the victim of incidents yesterday and this morning and pray for their family and friends. We also always will commit to ongoing safety citywide. There's much work to do. Combatting falsehoods only adds to it."
