Kansas City Debunks Social Media Despite Spate Of Deadly Shootings

The fight for the Halloween weekend narrative in Kansas City persists on social media . . .

So, per ushe, we leave the question to readers . . .

DID KANSAS CITY SUFFER AN EPIC SPATE OF HALLOWEEN WEEKEND VIOLENCE OR WERE SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS TROLLING FOR CLOUT???

To be fair, both things can be correct.

Police don't deny the deadly violence, in fact, they're really the only reliable source to help convey the facts of deadly gunfire and shootings.

More to the point . . .

WE NOTICE SO MANY SOCIAL MEDIA "URBAN" CONTENT CREATORS DEPEND ON VIOLENCE AS PART OF THEIR ONLINE STRATEGY THAT THEY TYPICALLY BLOG SHOOTINGS FROM KC TO DETROIT, CHICAGO & BEYOND AS A REALLY CAMPY YET UNFUNNY UPDATE OF BLAXPLOITATION NARRATIVES!!!

In fact . . .

When Mayor Q attempted to correct some of the misreporting on rogue accounts . . . One of the local urban bloggers flew into a tirade, blocked the mayor and then let loose with a torrent of more fake shootings and strange definitions of gun violence and imagined murders mixed in with very real fatalities.

However . . .

None of this is to say that KCMO wasn't exceptionally violent over Halloween weekend.

We merely point out that a great deal of sensationalism without any semblance of fact checking and CITATION along with a great deal of social media braggadocio isn't really intended to help increase public awareness but only serves as cynical self-aggrandizement.

As always, we trust KCPD comments and updates more than so many other low-rent pundit hacks . . .

KCPD officials initially pushed back on the claims Saturday, clarifying that while officers responded to several serious incidents, the online claims were fabricated.

“There were NO reported incidences of overdose or arson. And there most certainly were NOT 14 shootings with 4 deceased individuals and 13 shooting victims,” Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the department, said in a statement. “The system was not blacked out.”
