Kansas City School Connection To Pembroke Abuse Crisis

A few of our readers have shown an interest in this story that has garnered more reporting from the newspaper as the scandal reaches beyond the prep school . . . Here's the most recent update:

"After two Kansas City families say their daughters were groomed and mistreated at Académie Lafayette by a former third grade teacher, they let school administrators know. Each said they were told that the incidents during the 2015-2016 school year were reported to the Missouri Department of Social Services, which investigates incidents of child abuse and neglect. One remembers an administrator at the public French immersion charter school telling her that Jones had been “cleared.”

"But now, 10 years later — and after Jones was recently accused in a lawsuit of abusing and grooming a child at The Pembroke Hill School in 2021–2022 — the two families question why they never heard from the state. Neither family received a phone call from Children’s Division investigators. They said their daughters, who were third graders then and are now in college, were never interviewed. And they didn’t get a letter from the state saying the result of any investigation."
