I-70 Shutdown Will Be The Worst Traffic Disaster In Kansas City History

This is the last time we'll make this prediction that's obvious . . .

MoDOT officials will have to rethink this move when it become apparent what a mistake they're making. Sadly, we know that a few motorists are going to have to die in crashes for traffic officials to get the point that this kind of EPIC reroute isn't just dumb but overlooks how many people on local streets are creatures of habit with little or no ability to improvise.

"Interstate 70 will close in both directions between Van Brunt and Prospect on Jan. 11 for 11 months through December.

"The stretch carries 105,000 drivers a day, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. The department said a full closure is faster and safer than the other option of two years of lane closures."

MoDOT officials presented plans for a full, 11-month closure of I-70 to the Blue Springs City Council on Monday night. The project is expected to begin in early 2027.
