Another Kansas City Grocery Store FAIL: Who Should We Blame???

Actually . . . There's more than enough blame to go around even if Mayor Q has disavowed any KCMO culpability.

- Theft is the biggest problem that NOBODY wants to talk about seriously given that the only solution we really have is locking people up and/or refusing entry to problem customers.

- Nearby violent crime might also be a concern but that doesn't stop so many other nearby places from conducting biz.

- And an even more verboten topic is the non-profit management and questions about incentives that are NEVER going to be addressed in this historical epoch.

And so . . .

We're left with another urban defeat that will unfairly assigned to the community rather than a longstanding record of local leadership misadventures . . .

A metro grocery store officially closed on Monday. Community Builders of KC (CBKC) said the cost of operating led to the closure.

The Sun Fresh store on Blue Parkway had been struggling to keep things in stock. Shoppers in the area say this widens the gap in access to grocers.

In a statement released Monday, they said:

“Despite years of financial support from CBKC, declining sales, economic factors and rising operating costs have made the store unsustainable. Guided by its strategic framework, CBKC has elected to focus its resources where they will have the greatest long-term impact including housing, commercial real estate and workforce development projects currently in the development pipeline. Residents may visit nearby stores within a five-mile radius including Price Chopper in Brookside, Aldi on 63rd Street and Walmart on 350 Highway.
