The city of Independence announced Monday that an officer with more than three decades of law enforcement experience will now lead the Independence Police Department.

Edward "Ed" Turner will assume the role of IPD's chief of police on Oct. 26, 2026.

Turner joined the Independence Police Department in 1998, serving with the department for 25 years before he was named chief of police for the city of Grain Valley.
