Show-Me Redistricting Forever As Kehoe Backs Hoskins On Appeal

"Facing the threat of contempt of court, Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins backed down Thursday from his push to enforce the controversial ‘Missouri First’ congressional map that President Donald Trump and Republicans hoped could help them win an additional seat in the midterms.

"But just hours later, a federal appeals court opened the door for another legal fight.

"The 8th Circuit Court fast-tracked the legal battle Thursday afternoon, ordering an emergency hearing for Sept. 17 that puts the fate of Missouri’s election boundaries right back into question. The hearing set aside 10 minutes for an oral argument from Hoskins.

"Shortly after Hoskins’ appearance in court, Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe made comments via social media and to KCTV5 that brought into question whether Hoskins has truly abandoned support of HB 1."

Gov. Mike Kehoe remains hopeful that the state can use the gerrymandered map he helped usher in last year, even after other top Republicans conceded that the state must use older maps. At a ceremonial bill signing in Kansas City on Thursday, Kehoe said he would monitor the Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to see whether it restores the gerrymandered map, dubbed the “Missouri First Map” by supporters.
