"The battle over Missouri's congressional redistricting intensified after lawmakers drew a Trump-backed map. This new map favored Republicans by heavily splitting the Kansas City area. Opponents gathered over 300,000 signatures to force a public referendum. Republican Secretary of State Denny Hoskins initially blocked the vote. However, the Missouri Supreme Court unanimously overturned his decision, in a historic ruling. The state court ordered the previous 2022 boundaries to be used for November. Moving quickly, Attorney General Catherine Hanaway filed an emergency appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Now, Missouri argues the state court's intervention violates the federal Elections Clause and sparks unprecedented election chaos right before the midterm elections."
