Show-Me Impeachment Threat In Defense Of SecState Hoskins

If we wanted to be dramatic . . . We'd play this up as a "palace coup" against the judiciary. 

The reality is that "redistricting" is just another power struggle amongst lawyers impacting only the smallish fraction of Missouri residents who vote. It's important not to get too worked up over the political fate of an 80-year-old congressman vs. a earnest but ultimately unpopular Missouri politico who couldn't get elected in a town with more than three gas stations. 

More to the point . . .

THIS MISSOURI POWER MOVE IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK FIERCE BUT ACTUALLY SEEMS KINDA DESPERATE!!! 

Caveat . . .

Even if we don't think much of his politics, State Senator Rick Brattin is actually the only litigant in this fight who makes a relevant point: Voters from the primary deserve consideration . . . Even if we're not sure the map chaos counts as "disenfranchisement" for anyone.  

And so . . .  

If this is the downfall of American Democracy . . . We didn't expect that it would involve prop comedy and bold power moves at the behest of an 80-year-old game show host who helped to run the national debt up to 40 trillion bucks.  

And this is the punchline . . .  

A group of Missouri lawmakers sent a letter to Chief Justice W. Brent Powell of the Missouri Supreme Court threatening impeachment of justices on the state's highest court.

"Should Secretary Hoskins be held in contempt, we will petition the Speaker of the House and legislative leadership to begin impeachment proceedings against the responsible members of this Court for willful neglect of duty, incompetency, and misconduct under Article VII, Sections 1 and 2 of the Missouri Constitution," the letter states.
