Over the weekend, William Jewell College junior running back MicahJo Barnett tragically passed away after suffering a medical emergency on the sideline during the team's season opener.
Most suspect the heat likely played a factor.
And so . . .
SHOULD KANSAS CITY METRO SCHOOLS SPORTS AMID EPIC HEAT RATHER THAN RELYING ON SILLY AMATEUR COACHES???
Briefly . . .
We loved our high school football coaches but they didn't have any training as medical professionals and were way more concerned about winning games than mundane concerns like safety or heat indexes.
More importantly . . .
Maybe as KC confronts EPIC temperatures . . .
The risks to student athletes might be to great to trust to part-time coaches and school policy-makers should take the lead.
Reality . . . If any precaution save the life of one student, it's worth more than so many MEANINGLESS Friday night football games.
