KCPS Argues Bryan School Fate

"Several speakers supported moving forward with the district’s selected redevelopment proposal to demolish the building, noting years of community engagement and the length of time the building has remained vacant.

"Others urged the board to reconsider demolition. One neighborhood resident said more than 600 people signed a petition within approximately one day requesting an independent assessment of whether the building could be preserved rather than demolished. Another speaker asked the board to consider signatories’ proximity to Bryant . . .

"The redevelopment plan is on hold after a new member of the city’s Historic Preservation Commission filed to have the building placed on the city’s Register of Historic Places."
