KC Controlled Opposition Against New Royals Stadium Exposed?!?

As always, first we must define terms . . .

"Controlled opposition is a political party, group, or leader pretending to fight against those in power, but is actually secretly managed or influenced by them.

"This tactic gives people the illusion that they have a real choice in elections or protests. Leaders use it to trap and quiet down real anger from the public by steering protests in harmless directions. The group acts weak on purpose so the ruling group never actually loses its authority."

And so . . . 

A recent petition power move got us thinking if only because for many it was a rallying cry whilst the news didn't really resonate much outside the civic set.

Let's start by talking about cowtown culture . . . The small town roots of Kansas City conspire to take people at their word and never account for how deception and lies are constantly deployed in every political endeavor. 

We're not accusing anybody of anything but we want skeptical voters to consider this . . . 

- An outburst by a stadium worker served as an exceptional distraction to deflect public comment on the Royals stadium deal. 

- The main council opponent of the project is otherwise closely aligned with Mayor Q and has family connections to the city hall leader. 

- Another social media vanguard of an opposition group was a former council member who mostly supported local development projects including a great deal of downtown spending. 

- Meanwhile . . . The main activist protest leader against the new Royals stadium is a longtime Obama-era activist who has been given endless accolades by countless KCMO officials up to and including Mayor Q. 

And so we ask . . . 

Is the impending Royals stadium vote REALLY an organized labor negotiation and NOT a referendum to stop the Crown Center build??? 

Either way . . .

What we know for certain is that so much of this discussion is performative and we always advise locals not to blindly accept the narrative from hack newsies who are just sharing press release copy and cooked numbers.

More to the point . . . 

NOBODY IS COMING TO SAVE THE K!!!

Accordingly . . . Here's a bit more insight and reporting from local journalists who are mostly missing the point . . .    

If passed by a public vote, the initiative would require a public vote on any project for a venue with more than 2,500 seats that's getting public funds, like the plan for the Royals stadium at Crown Center.

"We’re looking forward to April, we're looking forward to voting on this," said Terrence Wise, a leader with Missouri Workers Power. 

Punchline . . . 

"The looming vote does not actually prevent the city from moving forward with the stadium plans in the meantime, and the mayor’s office made clear Tuesday that the city has no plans to slow down."
