"A federal court ruled that Kansas's price gouging law is preempted by federal law in the case of natural gas.

"The ruling means Kansas consumers remain responsible for excess costs from Winter Storm Uri in 2021.

"Kansas's price gouging law was originally passed after the 9/11 attacks to address gasoline price spikes.

"In a separate case, Attorney General Kris Kobach dropped a lawsuit against one energy company, which then donated $400,000 to the Salvation Army."
