Kansas City Star Talks Fairness After Alleged Police Assault In Westport

And the moral of this story might be that Westport mostly stays losing it's appeal as a local destination when newsies, police, politicos and activist struggle to control the historic district.   

And so . . . We share the money line from the local advocacy journalism . . . Check-it: 

"Video footage I’ve viewed of the incident clearly shows Showalter drove his knee into Hardy’s neck while the Kansas City man was face down on the pavement and handcuffed. Despite the very damning evidence that led to Showalter’s indictment last year, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office still must prove its case in court beyond a reasonable doubt. Just like any other citizen accused of a crime, Showalter is presumed innocent. He is also afforded his day in court. I’ve long believed that any police officer that violates their oath of duty or runs afoul of the law should surrender their peace officer’s license and leave the department. I feel no different in this case. If Showalter is guilty of assaulting a handcuffed man who posed no threat, it would be reasonable to conclude that he no longer deserves to wear a badge and a gun."
