INSIDERS WARN THAT COUNCIL CONTENDERS FOR MAYOR MIGHT CONSIDER VOTER DISDAIN FOR ROYALS STADIUM FREE MONEY!!!

Here's the word from the perspective of our 2nd favorite local political consultant . . .

"From a strategic standpoint, voting to allocate public funds for a Royals stadium puts Council Members Crispin Rea, Ryana Parks-Shaw, and Wes Rogers in a vulnerable in their bid to become Mayor. In an era where voters are hypersensitive to inflation and municipal budget strains, approving multi-million dollar subsidies for billionaire sports team owners is an easy target for future challengers. Opponents will inevitably weaponize this vote to paint a narrative of misplaced priorities, arguing that these incumbents favored corporate interests over pressing neighborhood needs. For Rea, Parks-Shaw, and Rogers, defending a stadium subsidy requires a complex economic argument that rarely resonates as effectively as a punchy, populist attack ad . . . Or probably a mailer."

While our neighborhoods are crying out for genuinely affordable housing, fully funded public schools, reliable transit, and repaired infrastructure, these representatives chose to bankroll a playground for A BILLIONAIRE. We will not let this slide, nor will we let them forget it. This vote proves exactly where their loyalties lie, and we are already organizing to ensure they are held accountable at the ballot box." 

Now, here are just a few more deets about the sketchy financial arrangement . . . 

"Kansas City could be on the hook for millions of dollars if the plan to fund a new Royals ballpark using the revenue from the stadium and the surrounding area falls short.

"The city would borrow $510 million via bonds for the stadium and spend another $90 million on infrastructure, according to the Economic Development Corporation tax increment financing plan. Half the increase in sales and earnings taxes generated in the district would go toward paying off these costs for 23 years, as would several of the city’s existing taxes and a new sales tax of up to 1% for 30 years."
