Kansas City Gunfire Kills Three Overnight

Labor Day weekend 2026 begins with a deadly spate of violence in Kansas City proper as police work multiple shooting scene and gunfire claims the lives of three people.

Here are the reports that police are sharing with local media . . .  

Homicide 54th and Michigan

This morning, just after 3:30 AM, officers were dispatched to 54th and Michigan on a reported shooting. 

As officers arrived they located an adult male and an adult female in the street suffering from gunshot wounds.  Officers began rendering aid and KCFD Medics arrived simultaneously. The male victim was pronounced deceased on scene. The female victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.  A short time later she was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. 

This is being investigated as a homicide. A subject of interest was taken into custody pending further investigation.  Preliminary information revealed there was an interaction in the street between multiple individuals before shots were fired and the victims were struck. 

Detectives and crime scene technicians are on scene canvassing for witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and recovering any physical evidence.

Homicide 3900 blk of Willow 

This morning, just before 2:00 AM, officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Willow Ave on a reported shooting. 

As officers arrived they were directed to an apartment building where they located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began rendering aid and ordered EMS. KCFD Medics pronounced the victim deceased on scene. 

This is being investigated as a homicide and no one is in custody at this point. Detectives are working to determine what led to the shots being fired and the victim being struck.
