Late into the evening we mark a tragic milestone as late year violence is better than last year but still a threat to far too many people on local streets.
We hope to talk about it more later in the AM, but for now here is the report the KCPD share with local media:
Homicide 3600 block E 73rd St
Tonight just after 8:30pm officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of E 73rd St on a shooting call.
On arrival they were directed to a vehicle in front of a house there. Inside that vehicle officers located a citizen rendering aid to an adult female shooting victim who was unresponsive.
Officers called for EMS and rendered additional aid, EMS responded and took over aid, eventually they declared the victim deceased here at the scene.
Additional responding officers developed preliminary information regarding a potential suspect. Those officers were able to locate and detain a subject of interest for further investigation at a nearby location.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators are at the scene canvassing for witnesses, talking to people who were at the scene when officers arrived, and gathering available evidence.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and suspect were at the location in front of the residence when they became involved in an interaction that escalated to gunfire which struck the victim.
If anyone was in this area and heard or saw anything or has any information, and has not yet talked to police, they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
