Jackson County COMBAT Tax Forever?!?

It's not that tax fighters don't want to also fight crime . . . But everyone who knows how 12th & Oak works UNDERSTANDS that a great deal of funding from the COMBAT program is rerouted, leveraged and granted to a myriad of sketchy political efforts that don't have much to do with keeping local streets safe. 

COMBAT is so HUGE . . . HOW HUGE??? . . . So HUGE that it's almost like another branch of local government. And the reality is that the vote to keep it going is mostly perfunctory and passes without any real organized opposition.   

Take a peek at the talking points shared by local media . . . 

"Every time someone buys something in Jackson County, Missouri, a quarter-cent sales tax goes toward anti-crime efforts — including a county-wide drug task force.

"The COMBAT sales tax (Community Backed Anti-crime Tax) is the drug task force's main funding source. Since 1989, it has collected about $31 million per year. That money also goes toward neighborhood programs, violence prevention initiatives and addiction treatment."
