Here's How KCPD Promises To Comply With Spy Cam Crackdown

For anybody who thinks about it for a sec . . . The recent spike in murders over the past few years should be enough to demonstrate that these camera don't really provide safety given that local tech has been instituted for over a decade . . . However . . . Residents should still appreciate the effort to follow guidance from the state.

"KCPD operates 540 ALPR cameras, which is 165 more cameras than it reported using in 2025, according to Media Unit Commander Jake Becchina. The cameras are used under contract with the company Genetec, not Flock Safety, which is the leading ALPR provider in the country.

Becchina also said the department will review its policies to ensure it remains in compliance with the governor’s order. He did not state how long KCPD stored its ALPR data prior to the order on Wednesday but added the department will adjust data retention operations to comply."
