Counting Kansas City Mayoral Candidate Cash On Hand

The Kansas City, Missouri mayoral contest is moving closer and the filing deadline early next year means that, unfortunately, we have to start taking the current crop of contenders seriously. 

To wit . . . 

LET'S COUNT KANSAS CITY MAYORAL MONEY SO FAR!!!

Our journalist betters bemoan fewer candidates declared this summer and maybe this will inspire more contenders to jump in the race . . . Already we've had a few pikers contact us and claim big bucks to make a run and seem disappointed when we tell them that it would be more beneficial to voters to start a career in public service on the council or even at the school board level. But I digress . . .

The point of this post is to take a quick peek behind the curtain and share some of the latest numbers that we've gleaned from the Missouri Ethics Commish . . . Check the totals that we've counted by way of "money on hand" and then cash raised during the latest July reporting period . . .  

Mayor Pro Tem Ryna Parks-Shaw: $117K (+$18K in July)

Councilman Crispin Rea $112K (+$42K in July)

Councilman Wes Rogers: $137K ($58K in July)

Kenda Tomes McClain: $102K ($1.6K in July)

Now, all of this should come with a caveat . . .

It's actually the political action committees what will determine the power plays in this contest. 

For instance . . .

Common Sense Kansas City now counts around $150K (+$102K in July) and they're getting most of their cash from the Firefighter Union who has declared their support for Councilman Rea. 

Nevertheless we remain hopeful here at www.TonysKansasCity.com yet still want to provide this reality check . . .  

None of these cash totals are insurmountable, but any candidates who gets into this contest with less than $100K shouldn't be taken seriously . . . KC hasn't had a "grassroots" candidate in the modern era and THAT is why following the money is important because, like it or not, it offers an indication of how this contest will unfold.
